Soy Bean Buddhism: Kogen Mizuno
http://soybeanbuddhist.blogspot.com/2009/01/kogen-mizuno.html
Sunday, January 4, 2009. I've been reading (re-reading) Basic Buddhist Concepts. By Kogen Mizuno, and I['m up to the chapter on the Twelve-Link Chain of Dependent Origination. I don't understand it this time, either. But I've thought of something that helps me understand a little bit of it a little bit. Unless I'm completely off-base, which may well be. I'm assuming that we've all seen The Wizard of Oz. If, watching The Wizard of Oz. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Soy Bean Buddhism: August 2008
http://soybeanbuddhist.blogspot.com/2008_08_01_archive.html
Friday, August 22, 2008. Some of them are free, others around $25.00. Sunday, August 17, 2008. Also, lately, I've been re-reading Walden. I've always had at least two books going at a time since I was reading the adventures of the Hardy Boys. I can't help myself.) Both of these books discuss the dangers of the loss of focus that modern life brings, the inability to concentrate, to root your attention in the here and now. We need to become mindful of this. Soy Bean Buddhism: July 2008
http://soybeanbuddhist.blogspot.com/2008_07_01_archive.html
Tuesday, July 29, 2008. Yesterday I overheard (was tangentially involved in) a conversation, and it's been haunting me. An elderly woman was talking about earlier that day, when she was driving her car, and a young man stepped off the sidewalk and walked in front of her. She had to hit her brakes hard in order to avoid killing him. Having all these things to be grateful for, she chose to focus on anger. Saturday, July 26, 2008. Soy Bean Buddhism: October 2008
http://soybeanbuddhist.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html
Thursday, October 23, 2008. Onward, Into the Fog. Not really my post, but a fascinating post from Speaking of Faith. The NPR radio program on religion. They have a blog. And this is from that:. We want to believe that hardship will ennoble us and teach us virtue, without robbing us of the aptitude for joy, or making us mean and peevish. In reality, sainthood is a by-product of adversity only for a few. The rest of us struggle through, managing a little generosity here. Friday, October 17, 2008. Him" I'm ...

Soy Bean Buddhism: September 2008
http://soybeanbuddhist.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html
Wednesday, September 24, 2008. Yeah, I know. I've been busy, or at least recovering from surgery, and I'm using news articles for filler. On the edge of Tibetan towns in this western province, special police officers carrying rifles stand guard behind checkpoints made of sandbags. Inside the towns, convoys of police vehicles drive up and down the streets. Security personnel stop shoppers and question them. The rest of the article is here. Wednesday, September 17, 2008. To his spiritual calm. It is based ...

Soy Bean Buddhism: Veteran's Day
http://soybeanbuddhist.blogspot.com/2008/11/veterans-day.html
Tuesday, November 11, 2008. Today is Veteran's Day, a day we are encouraged to think about those who have served or are serving in the military, and their sacrifices for us. But today used to be known as Armistice Day, set aside to commemorate the end. So today, at the traditional time of the eleventh minute of the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, I am going to pause, and pray for peace. I invite you to do the same. Or, if you miss 11:11 this morning, please, stop whenever you can.
