Life With Lonnie: December 2009
http://raisinganautisticchild.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html
Raising an autistic child. Sunday, December 27, 2009. We lost my aunt to cancer yesterday. It was expected, I'm glad she was able to have one last Christmas with the family, especially her 2 grandsons. I told Lonnie last night that Aunt Jan had died, not knowing if she would really comprehend or not. She looked at me very surprised, her eyes wide, and said, "she died? Birthday, I can see that she is beginning to understand. As always, each day holds it's own miracles. Links to this post. They don't all f...

Life With Lonnie: November 2010
http://raisinganautisticchild.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html
Raising an autistic child. Monday, November 1, 2010. Another Halloween come and gone. Unlike most children, Lonnie's greatest joy on Halloween is giving rather than receiving. She loves to hand out candy to all the trick or treaters, tell them how great their costume is and to point out the happy-faced jack-o-lantern she helped prepare. She always wants a costume for the school activities. This year she decided on a Veterinarian. I think it turned out pretty well. Links to this post. Taking over the sofa.

Life With Lonnie: Halloween is coming!
http://raisinganautisticchild.blogspot.com/2010/10/halloween-is-coming.html
Raising an autistic child. Friday, October 1, 2010. So, Lonnie has decided that this year her costume choice is a veterinarian. So far I have found pink scrubs, a white lab coat and a stethoscope. She insists that there must be a hypodermic needle and tongue depressor (where does she get these ideas? I have found some possibilities on line and I think I will be able to round out the accessories in time. This is definitely easier than finding all the parts of the Minnie Mouse costume last year!

Life With Lonnie: Different viewpoints
http://raisinganautisticchild.blogspot.com/2010/10/different-viewpoints.html
Raising an autistic child. Monday, October 25, 2010. I just finished reading a very eloquent open letter to a Dr. Kartzinel, who has some very controversal views about autism and how to "treat" it. Most of the comments posted were extremely negative, but the last one seemed to be the best - saying keep an open mind and try to understand a different point of view - even if you don't agree with it. Here's the link:. Dear Dr. Kartzinel. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Taking over the sofa.

Party of Eight: October 2008
http://ourpartyofeight.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html
Tuesday, October 28, 2008. Our dear friend Matt also happens to be an extraordinarily talented freelance photographer. We finally stepped up for the punishment that is family-picture-taking. In the end, I resorted to promises of large candy bars with a dollar attached to them. Did the trick! These photos are just ones that Brian or I took while we were in the midst of the photo shoot. Matt's work will be posted once it is all done. For now.oh the cuteness of these six amazing gifts! In all honesty, finan...

Life With Lonnie: April 2010
http://raisinganautisticchild.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html
Raising an autistic child. Wednesday, April 14, 2010. I just finished reading a great book! Thinking in Pictures (Expanded, Tie-in Edition): My Life with Autism (Vintage). Lonnie has speech, but still has difficulty expressing herself sometimes. It can be like playing 20 questions getting information from her. She tries, I can tell she is struggling to come up with the right words. The more I read in this book, the more sense I was able to make out of some of Lonnie's behaviors. Links to this post. Life With Lonnie: January 2011
http://raisinganautisticchild.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html
Raising an autistic child. Thursday, January 20, 2011. Hard to get my head around but our miracle child just turned 13! Her birthday falls during winter break so it's hard to get kids here for a party - so we had cake with family and took Lonnie bowling. She really enjoys bowling and is getting pretty good, but she gets really frustrated when she doesn't knock down all the pins. Links to this post. How To Train Your Dragon. Links to this post. Life With Lonnie: February 2010
http://raisinganautisticchild.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html
Raising an autistic child. Friday, February 19, 2010. Valentines Day has come and gone. Lonnie was very excited about making valentines for the children in her class. I helped her print their names on tags which she put on small bags of candy. She was really involved this year - making sure all the childrens names were accounted for and that all the bags had the same amounts in them. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Taking over the sofa. New home for some of her "critters".
