Tobias J. Osborne's research notes. An open science weblog focussed on quantum information theory, condensed matter physics, and mathematical physics. I’ve recently been pondering this picture. scrofulous: terrorist profiling
http://scrofulous.blogspot.com/2006/09/terrorist-profiling.html
Sometimes life gives us lessons sent in ridiculous packaging. People get all worked up about this idea, but think about the benefits:. People spend on average less time in line. Terrorists get caught more often. Of course some people will get unnecessarily searched, but that's happening already! And just think of the absurdity of the status quo, when airport screeners waste their time searching uneducated young men and aren't left with enough time to catch the older, more educated, threat. The solution i...

scrofulous: no seriously, don't profile
http://scrofulous.blogspot.com/2006/09/no-seriously-dont-profile.html
Sometimes life gives us lessons sent in ridiculous packaging. No seriously, don't profile. Sarcasm may have obscured the point of the last post. Profiling makes even less sense against organized terrorists than against criminals. Why? The young woman was Anne Murphy, a white, Catholic girl from Dublin. The explosives had been planted by her boyfriend, Nezar Hindawi, a terrorist with links to the Syrian government. For example, think of dying prematurely as an enormous waste of time (like reading blogs!

Martin Wolf and Monopoly. Entropic Uncertainty Principle →. Saturday / 2010 July 31 · 22:46. One the first posts here at complementary slackness was on the apparent phenomenon of a machine that can go downwind faster than the wind ( DWFTTW. Now it’s been convincingly demonstrated. By Rick Cavallaro and co at fasterthanthewind.org and verified by the North American Land Sailing Association that DWFTTW is possible; their cart traveled directly downwind at 2.8 times the wind speed. Speaking of unintentionally humorous… | Complementary Slackness
https://complementaryslackness.wordpress.com/2010/03/06/speaking-of-unintentionally-humorous
A fistful of complementarity. For a little more complementarity →. Saturday / 2010 March 6 · 0:18. Speaking of unintentionally humorous…. The Times once published an unintentionally humorous description of a Peter Ustinov documentary, noting that “highlights of his global tour include encounters with Nelson Mandela, an 800-year-old demigod and a dildo collector”. This is ambiguous as it stands, as Mandela could then be mistaken for a demigod. A fistful of complementarity. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.
