Saturday Public Viewing Nights at the Observatory. Solar Observing at Tyntesfield. Solar Eclipse March 2015. March 2015, the UK awoke to a rarely seen event. At 8:23am, precisely, the moon began to move in front of the sun. For the Bristol Astronomical Society, the excitement of the day started more than an hour and a half before this though. An assortment of devices was set up between 7am and 8:15am. Despite a cloudy and somewhat nerve-wracking start, the skies soon cleared to allow the crowds to watch ...

Planet-Si: Saturn and its Closing Rings

http://planet-si.blogspot.com/2008/02/saturn-and-its-closing-rings.html

Musings on astronomical imaging, processing, and capture . Thursday, February 21, 2008. Saturn and its Closing Rings. I have not had a lot of time to observe over the past few months, but the opportunity came up the other week to get a telescope out to show my father in law some of the delights of the night sky. Top on the list was Saturn, and I was amazed to see just how much the rings have closed since I last got a good look at the ringed planet. This image was taken with Bristol Astronomical Socities.

Musings on astronomical imaging, processing, and capture . Wednesday, January 30, 2008. Data has landed in the Bristol Astronomical Societies. Inbox, and this time is that rather faint Hickson Compact Galaxy. Group 19. Faint being the understatement here - the brightest component being at magnitude 14.5! Luckily, the FingerLakes. IMG42-40 camera on Faulkes North is more than up to the job with its rather sensitive 4 megapixel E2V CCD sensor. Brings up the "tech specs" of the grouping nicely.
