The Best Outboard Motor For The World'. British Seagull started in 1931 and amazingly enough it's still going strong and in British hands - almost unique! For its time the original engine was very advanced, a good proportion of the original engines are still running and parts are generally still available to keep them that way - a truly unique engine, a magnificent piece of British engineering and ingenuity. The History of British Seagull Outboards. Just how many British Seagull outboard engines are in sheds, garages and outhouses? The original design was one of many initiated by the original manufacturers, John Marston Ltd and the Sunbeam Motor Company, the makers of the famous Sunbeam motorcycles. We do, however, understand that the design was developed as a marine engine rather than an adapted industrial engine. This is probably one of the major reasons for their endurance and success.

British Seagull Outboard Technical Tips. All British Seagull outboard engines should run on unleaded petrol. Did you know that unleaded petrol does not store for as long as standard leaded petrol - so keep it fresh. As soon as you mix Two Stroke Oil with the petrol it shortens its useful life. These factors together with natural evaporation of the petrol from an oil mixture are the most common problems in re-starting your engine after the winter or a prolonged period of non-running. Work stopped during the war but resumed in 1945. His mind turned to boats and the first 22ft Freeman Cruiser emerged in 1957.
