British Wildlife Centre ~ Keeper's Blog: March 2015

http://britishwildlifecentre.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html

Photo of the Month. Saturday, 28 March 2015. The Easter break for schools is now with us, and this always signals the start of Spring for me and all at the Centre. For the next two weeks we are open to the public every day of the week, as well as the weekends and bank holidays. Easter is often a busy time for us, with lots of people wanting to get out of the house and enjoy the (hopefully) nice weather and longer days. don't forget, clocks go forward tonight! Another yearly thing we tend to do is put up ...

British Wildlife Centre ~ Keeper's Blog: Dancing Adder Videos

http://britishwildlifecentre.blogspot.com/2015/05/dancing-adder-videos.html

Photo of the Month. Friday, 1 May 2015. I think the dancing for this season may be over. I have seen only one more short period of action since my post last week, and that was for a few minutes Saturday afternoon, luckily some of you were here to see it. Will they dance this weekend? So, to round up the dancing adder posts, have a look at a couple of videos. This clip is a couple of bits in slow motion to show the movement a bit more. I believe it is about a 1/4 of the normal speed. This blog will be reg...

British Wildlife Centre ~ Keeper's Blog: BWC Keepers

http://britishwildlifecentre.blogspot.com/p/bwc-keepers.html

Photo of the Month. Head Keeper Matt has a particular interest in British wildlife, studying a HND/Foundation Degree in Animal Science at Plumpton College. “I came to the BWC in the Summer of 2004 and refused to leave! I love being outside observing the animals and their behaviour, and I enjoy educating visitors about our own, often overlooked, wildlife.” Matt’s special interest is red squirrels and pine martens. He’s developed a particular bond with our pine marten Bonnie. Becasue they are badass!

http://britishwildlifecentre.blogspot.com/2015/05/red-squirrel-kittens.html

Photo of the Month. Friday, 15 May 2015. Firstly, bear with me as these are old photos, but I just wanted to bring you the exciting news that we have squirrel kittens at the Centre! We have had a slow start to the season, especially where our red squirrels are concerned, but this past week have noticed that five of our females have a litter of kittens, including some in our walk through enclosure. About – Conservation Dogs | Dogs for wildlife and invasive species detection

http://www.conservationdogs.com/about

It is well known that dogs possess a highly developed sense of smell; some estimates suggest at least a 100,000 times more sensitive than humans. This is attributable to the anatomical differences within the nose and brain dogs. This intense scenting ability that dogs have, has been utilised for over a thousand years. Research suggests that humans have on average 5 Million scent receptors, and certain breeds of dog have be found to have up to 250 million scent receptors. Good morning from #awardwinning.

Photo of the Month. Saturday, 17 March 2018. Lick your lips everyone, the summer season of talks is here. Yes, it seems strange to call it our summer season of talks when spring hasn't even fully arrived yet, but these are the new "Keeper Talks" that usually last us through till our winter season at the end of October. For those new to the Centre, the new talk schedule sees us add in three very popular animals which are just a little less active to star during the winter. Wednesday, 14 March 2018. Since ...
