Living in South Korea

Living in South Korea. Saturday, April 4, 2009. April 2-3: I love my friends. FINALLY the weekend we've been planning for three weeks arrived! Our mission was to surprise a certain Ms. Lisa with a birthday party. One of the best things (actually THE best thing) about living in Suncheon is all of the other people who live here. Over a hundred facebook msgs later, sent between twenty different people, we finally had the details ironed out. Cardboard cutouts of sheep and lions to be worn around the neck.

Living in South Korea: November 2008

http://www.broadcastingfromsuncheon.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html

Living in South Korea. Wednesday, November 19, 2008. This weekend starts in 3 hours and 48 minutes! Friday there is a mandatory meeting for all of us native crazies with the JLP (Jeollanamdo Language? My snuggler(see previous post) and I are shacking up in a love motel in Gwangju tonight. If we were to leave for Gwangju tomorrow we would have to get up at balls o'clock in the morning. He looks at me, seems at a total loss of what to say, blurts out 'I love you' and leaves. okay. You never show your face!

Living in South Korea: January 2009

http://www.broadcastingfromsuncheon.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html

Living in South Korea. Tuesday, January 27, 2009. I hit the vacation wall about three days ago. You know, the point where lazing around doing nothing turns from being blissfull to nightmare-ishly boring. My entire sleep pattern has regressed to my old bartending days. I'm staying up until dawn and crawling out of bed around dinner time (note to self, stop this behavior immediately). Anyway, the time BEFORE the vacation wall has been spectactular! We also discovered Wii-bang! It's also so pleasent that th...

Living in South Korea: February 22- Sorry Mom (on two counts)

Living in South Korea. Sunday, February 22, 2009. February 22- Sorry Mom (on two counts). The first reason I have to apologize to my mother is because she doesn't like it when I participate in dangerous activities. I didn't MEAN to do anything death-defying today.it just sort of happened. I hated the ride. It felt much too dangerous. Off we headed to see the red sand dunes of Mui Ne (the white dunes are supposed to be prettier but its too far to bike there). Upon reaching the dunes we immediately spotted...

Living in South Korea: December 2008

http://www.broadcastingfromsuncheon.blogspot.com/2008_12_01_archive.html

Living in South Korea. Wednesday, December 31, 2008. It's currently 10:41pm December 31st 2008. I am sitting in the teacher's room for the Suncheon Winter English Camp. I am sipping bokbunjajoo (delicious raspberry wine). The rest of the foreign teachers are sitting behind me, but casual conversation is no longer enough to keep my eyes open. Although the conversation between nine exhausted foreigners can be HILARIOUS. Dean is flying his remote-control helicopter in the foyer. That also makes me smile.

Living in South Korea: March 2009

http://www.broadcastingfromsuncheon.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html

Living in South Korea. Sunday, March 22, 2009. March 22: Apricot festival. Well kinda. The Korean is Maehwa, which I believe translates more directly into 'Japanese plum' rather then 'apricot', but in any case. Lisa and I headed off to Hadong, a town forty minutes away by train, to experience this festival. The whole point is that the Maehwa trees are blooming. It's gorgeous. Lisa and I ate lunch on plastic stools at a makeshift restaurant. We sat down to listen to a nonet of saxophone players. Aburptly ...

Just another WordPress.com site. Memory from South Korea: August 2008. Asymp; Leave a comment. Tonight as I was walking up a steep path near my home, I had a sudden flashback to another steep path I once walked in South Korea. I started laughing hysterically at the ridiculous memory, so I decided to share in three parts:. Part 1 – The Boring Back Story. Suncheon is a lovely city with a bay, but Yeosu is right on the ocean and has fabulous beaches. So it came to pass that on my first weekend in Korea,...

Broadcasting From My Mind. Bits 'N Pieces Of My Mind. I’m not a narcissist. I started a blog (not this one) with a certain idea in my mind but no matter what I do, my blog doesn’t live up to my idea. Do more bloggers ever get disappointed with their own blog or find their own blog boring as hell? Don’t give up…. Don’t go to heaven just yet. Three short lines from The Help, but I will tell them to people till Kingdom come because everyone should have been told at least once in their life, unless you are a...

Putting it all together. Welcome to ‘Broadcasting Genres’. April 15, 2015. September 17, 2015. Humans are creators. We constantly produce art, culture and entertainment for ourselves and for others. We are also pattern seekers. We love to put things into categories, to grade them by type and list them series. This is why the idea of genre is important. When you visit the record store, do you look through the rock section or head straight to hip hop? In this course, we will consider various traditional an...
