My Photo-musing around Chicagoland. Friday, July 12, 2013. Tuesday started with a very dark and gloomy sky. I decided to ride my bike anyway and got rained on in the process. It was worth it! I got some really nice images in Seneca Illinois and then decided to ride Dupont Rd back towards Morris. I was pleased when I reached the bridge of the Illinois and was presented with this tug pushing a load eastward down the river. Saturday, March 9, 2013. A late Winter Sunset. A late Winter Sunset. brokecompsoul: December 2009

http://www.brokecompsoul.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html

My Photo-musing around Chicagoland. Monday, December 28, 2009. Cold End of the Year. Went by the planetarium today and shot this cold view. Sunday, December 20, 2009. Due to things that out of my control. I'm temporarly suspending my blog. Best wishes to all for a great holiday season. Monday, December 14, 2009. It's warm and balmy 39 today but another cold spell is coming for tommorrow with highs barley making 20. Monday, December 7, 2009. Wednesday, December 2, 2009. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

brokecompsoul: January 2010

http://www.brokecompsoul.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html

My Photo-musing around Chicagoland. Friday, January 29, 2010. Harvest Moon in January? Yesterday morning I caught a strange sight. The setting moon in waxing gibbous was orange in color. This color is usually associated with the Harvest Moon. Very strange! Tuesday, January 19, 2010. Winter at Ping Tom Park. Wednesday, January 13, 2010. Last Friday, the snowstorm came to an end and the sky was clearing. We had an interesting pinkish sky just before daybreak :). Sunday, January 3, 2010.

brokecompsoul: A Red Lite Sunset

http://www.brokecompsoul.blogspot.com/2010/02/red-lite-sunset.html

My Photo-musing around Chicagoland. Sunday, February 21, 2010. A Red Lite Sunset. Last Tuesday evening something told me to look out the kitchen window, When I looked out I was amazed by the red reflections the last light of the day was casting on the loop. The Aon Building in particular looks very cool! John C. Gill. A fiery, selective phenomenon. Interestingly, the suns rays highlight only portions of the skyline. February 26, 2010 at 2:17 PM. brokecompsoul: Trains!

http://www.brokecompsoul.blogspot.com/2010/03/trains.html

My Photo-musing around Chicagoland. Friday, March 19, 2010. Thursday was the third in a string of nice days that Chicago has had. I decided to watch some trains go through the Canal Street Railroad Bridge. This is a vertical lift bridge and it's neat to watch it go up when boats go through. Today, however it was time to see trains pass through. The first picture is an amtrak train headed to Union Station. The one below shows an Union Pacific Engine passing through. Tom Gill's Photos and Comments: Sunset on the Farm

http://lapstrake.blogspot.com/2015/06/sunset-on-farm.html

Tom Gill's Photos and Comments. Sunset on the Farm. The end to a long day of hiking around rural Illinois was made perfect by this sunset near an old log cabin on the prairie. The light was no longer acceptable for images of the cabin, but the setting sun, windmill, and trees on the horizon yielded some great silhouettes. Temperatures dropped dramatically right as the sun hit the horizon, and storms were on the way, but we managed to complete our photographic mission without encountering any rain. And ot...

Tom Gill's Photos and Comments: Dark Falls

http://lapstrake.blogspot.com/2015/06/dark-falls.html

Tom Gill's Photos and Comments. Early morning at the bottom of the canyon was quite dark, even though the sun illuminated the falls and the trees some 30 feet above us. We spent the morning following trails we normally don't explore, and encountered some interesting new landscapes, but we came back to visit one of our favorite waterfalls. Posted by Tom Gill. Tom Gill's Photos and Comments: Severe Weather

http://lapstrake.blogspot.com/2015/06/severe-weather.html

Tom Gill's Photos and Comments. While the storms never reached us, the distant lightning and overhead mammatus clouds kept us intrigued throughout the evening. A cold front just south of our position, stalled, and produced some severe thunderstorms that just didnt' seem to move away. Just before sunset, mammatus clouds appeared overhead, spun off from the thunderheads a few miles south. Almost constant thunder could be heard in the distance as we looked above at the unusual puffy, clouds. Environmental a...

Tom Gill's Photos and Comments: Parallel To Shore

http://lapstrake.blogspot.com/2015/06/parallel-to-shore.html

Tom Gill's Photos and Comments. Kintzele Ditch runs parallel to shore on this day, virtually eliminating all of the beach on the Mt. Baldy side of the stream. Lake Michigan has eroded most of the beach over the years, and collapsed a good portion of the foredunes in this area of the National Lakeshore. Posted by Tom Gill. Thursday, June 04, 2015. http://lapstrake.blogspot.com/2015/05/marsh-patrol.html

Tom Gill's Photos and Comments. Restoration continues in the Great Marsh of the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. Efforts seem to have positive results - plenty of wildlife are calling this place home. On our last visit, we encountered numerous species of bird, water birds such as the egret in this image, several great blue herons, turtles, frogs, and lots of insects. All without looking too closely. Posted by Tom Gill. Thursday, May 28, 2015. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Press and Published Work.

Tom Gill's Photos and Comments: West Union Covered Bridge

http://lapstrake.blogspot.com/2015/08/west-union-covered-bridge.html

Tom Gill's Photos and Comments. West Union Covered Bridge. Spanning Sugar Creek since 1876, the 315 foot long West Union covered bridge is the longest (still standing) covered bridge in Parke County, Indiana. The West Union covered bridge was built by Joseph Daniels, and uses double Burr Arch construction - one for each span. The foundation is constructed of stone, the bridge of yellow poplar, and the roof painted steel. The construction cost was between $8,000 and $16,000. Posted by Tom Gill. The Daily ...

Tom Gill's Photos and Comments: Sculpted Dune

http://lapstrake.blogspot.com/2015/07/sculpted-dune.html

Tom Gill's Photos and Comments. The dunes along the Indiana shore of Lake Michigan take a pounding by the waves during windy days. In the last few years, this erosion seems to have accelerated; much of the flat beach is gone, and full sized trees that once stood on the dunes have been washed into Lake Michigan. Looking like miniature versions of the buttes of the western United States, the complex patterns intrigued us as we hiked along the shore. Posted by Tom Gill. Wednesday, July 08, 2015. Tom Gill's Photos and Comments. The Neet Covered Bridge. Six miles southeast of Rockville, Indiana, stands the Neet Covered Bridge. Said to be the last covered bridge built by Joseph Daniels (a well known covered bridge contractor) the 126 foot long bridge has spanned Little Raccoon Creek since 1904. Posted by Tom Gill. Tom Gill's Photos and Comments: Established Dune

http://lapstrake.blogspot.com/2015/05/established-dune.html

Tom Gill's Photos and Comments. Without natural sand replenishment, Lake Michigan is slowly eroding away these dunes. Man made structures such as the pier in Michigan City, prevent waves from carrying sand to this beach, so a prominent fore dune has not developed. Without a fore dune, this established dune is threatened by wind and waves. The dunes are an ever changing feature along the shore of Lake Michigan. They've changed every day for the last 4000 years, and won't stop anytime soon. And has earned ...

Sunday, June 21, 2009. The third phase of my travels has begun. A month spent in Brazil for Carnaval was great. Backpacking through Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East was unforgettable. The Broke Costumer

When I first started this blog, I was an unemployed costumer attempting to create period gowns and costumes with very limited means. Although now employed, I still try to be as thrifty as possible. I am still "The Broke Costumer"! In addition to posts about the outfits I make on a budget, this blog includes short research articles on fashion, history, accessories, styles, or whatever interests me at the moment. I hope you enjoy my journey into the land of inexpensive costuming and short articles. I added...
