For friends and family to see what we are up to. Sunday, October 21, 2007. In the last few years, Miss Opal has lost her singing voice - a stroke left the muscles around her mouth limp. Opal was one of the first examples I had of a woman in musical leadership at church, and she influenced my musical development greatly. She is in a nursing home now, still praising God for each day He gives her. Opal is so happy to see Sophie play, and says she remembers me at that age, making my first performances.

In one of his books (I cannot remember now which one) Dallas Willard suggests that as you read the Bible, to the greatest degree that you are able, you put yourself into the shoes of the people in the stories. The Bible is powerful, but it is also far removed from us in time. This makes it come alive in the here and now and helps us apply it. From the author's website:. Our nephew Lucas had a soccer game today in Yorba Linda, so we got to spend an afternoon in the beautiful OC with beautiful family. Wednesday, September 19, 2007. Lots of Really Big Cows. Today we went to the L.A. County Fair with our home education group, Park Academy. Monday, September 17, 2007. We celebrated on the patio with some of his favorites - baby back ribs, rosemary LaBrea bread (Costco) and German chocolate cake.

Sunday, March 7, 2010. Yesterday the boys had their Opening Ceremonies for their Little League. Both Joe and Isaac are on the Dodgers this year, but in two separate divisions. Thursday, February 4, 2010. Yesterday Mark and I went to a routine follow-up at the orthopedic surgeon's office for his left arm. If you don't recall, he fractured his humerus last June while playing kickball with the 3rd graders at our boys' school. Mark is still dealing with a lot of functional problems and pain 7 1/2 months later. So after the x-ray, the ortho doc came in and basically said that we need to do surgery, and that he could do it TOMORROW (which is today). Okay!

Friday, January 1, 2010. Document on camera - a reminder of God's goodness. I am especially thankful for the good gift of family. Here are some shots of both Mark's side and my side from this past summer.we love them all so much! Jim and Betty (Mark's parents) celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in September. As part of that celebration, the whole family took a trip to the Oregon coast to stay in a 3-story Victorian style home for 5 days. What a great time! This was the boys' first plane ride.

Friday, January 29, 2010. Josiah and Isaac had a student free day at school today so we took the opportunity to go sledding up at Mt. Baldy. I am always reluctant to hassle with the snow gear and the drive, but Mark encouraged me to go. He was right. We had so much fun!
