Tuesday, March 1, 2011. If you like this, read Hoot! The owls in this video aren't afraid of the camera because it is hiding inside an orange construction cone. Saturday, April 16, 2011. What's happening inside the eggs this weekend? Even though we're not at GMS in our classroom hovering over the eggs, the development marches on! We are now on days 11 and 12. More than halfway! The toe claws begin to curve downward. The bottom of the feet become padded. Feather germs on the back and tail appear as long, tapering cones. The beak begins to harden. The comb appears serrated. The embryo begins to draw calcium from the eggshell for its growing bones. The eggs day 2.

Thursday, April 28, 2011. Or really, we just lost track (meaning me). I forgot to write down that egg 5 hatched and somehow when I went through the egg shells I missed it! So, Sydney was counting the eggs in the incubator after school and did the math: 24 - 5 = 19! We'll take 'em all! Here's a picture of our last baby. He's the gray chic. K with the light face. Saturday, April 9, 2011. Saturday ends day 3 and begins day 4! What's happening inside the egg today? Day 3 ended at 2:00 this afternoon, and now day 4 has begun. I have lots to tell you about how quickly the embryos are developing. The head begins to turn to the left side. The tongue begins to form. Tely surrounds the embryo to protect it. The tail has appeared. Wing and leg buds are visible. Soon other organs such as the liver, kidneys, and lungs will appear. The reproductive organs, leg bones, and crop.

Monday, May 9, 2011. Gone, but not forgotten! Can you believe that this is all 34 of the 4th grade chicks hatched this year? After Miss Close and I put all of them in one box it was hard to tell them apart. Of course I could still pick out my favorite,. Grace Kelly. The farmer told me she thinks that Grace will be a rooster. I refuse to believe it! I LOVE the chicks. It was super cool to see them hatch. They are beautiful animals. Sunday, April 24, 2011. What's happening inside the egg on days 18 and 19? The eggs are no. W resting and getting ready for the hatch to begin. Last night I put extra water in the tray, lined the screen with Handi Wipes, and added water cups with sponges to make the incubator very humid. We don't want those eggs too hard to break out of!
