Rachel's REED 430 Blog. Tuesday, June 21, 2011. Comprehension and Think Alouds. I really liked the idea of using "I wonder" as a model to teach comprehension skills because young children so often wonder what things are, how they work, and how they can relate to themselves. I believe that this will make comprehension lessons relateable and fun for younger. June 21, 2011 at 2:12 PM. I love having something to go by that is very organized and laid out, and tells you exactly what to do next. Although, I hav...

Courtney's Reading Ed Blog: Reading Comprehension
http://cdhutchins.blogspot.com/2011/06/reading-comprehension.html
Courtney's Reading Ed Blog. Tuesday, June 21, 2011. I really liked the kindergarten article, because as I have said before, I will be in kindergarten next year. I think a lot of teachers don't realize the importance of starting to develop reading comprehension at this age. Making connections is mentioned in several of the articles and I think that is extremely important. I love the idea of the "Velcro Theory" and sticking ideas to your brain so you can remember them. caitjacks blog: June 21st Readings
http://caitjacksblog.blogspot.com/2011/06/june-21st-readings.html
Tuesday, June 21, 2011. Schema is stressed in all of the readings and rightfully so. How can we expect students to make sense of anything if they do not see a way to connect their new knowledge to prior readings? I really enjoyed the examples given in this article, I was able to see how they could dramatically influence the comprehension levels of students and it gave me multiple ideas for engaging student knowledge. June 24, 2011 at 8:43 AM. Ps- I love the header on your blog! Is it just a font?

I think its wonderful that the Hart and Risley article helped you connect your sociology degree to your work in education. They are interrelated in so many ways! June 20, 2011 at 3:28 PM. Carrie F's Reading Blog. Thursday, June 23, 2011. This article, in my opinion, is useful in giving an overview of the process of guided reading and also in suggesting ways to implement guided reading in a literacy program. The link to this article is http:/ web.ebscohost.com.proxy.lib.utk.edu:90/ehost/detail? If this link does not work I found the website on the UT libraries website under ERIC. Thursday, June 9, 2011. The article by Timothy Rasinski, Creating Fluent Readers. A easy fix to this is the evaluate the students over an extended amount of time, have them read passages that span multiple minutes verses just the one. June 10, 2011 at 9:31 AM. Caitlin, you bring some great points here. I realized after reading your blog we didnt get the chance to cover endurance in class. Dang it! June 13, 2011 at 3:35 PM. June 13, 2011 at 7:46 PM. I love how you used w-o-r-d-s in the title of your post. That was really cute and original! June 16, 2011 at 5:39 PM. It is unfortunate that so many of us do not have memories of being taught to read in fun and interactive ways. Im glad to hear that you are thinking ahead to your own classroom and how to incorporate effective practices.
