Luna Park Fire

At 3:30 pm on August 12. 1944, a fire broke out in the washroom at Luna's Dragon Gorge Scenic Railroad building, a classic roller coaster located midway along the western side of the park. Flames spread quickly to a double row of wooden structures adjoining it, and fanned by a sea breeze raced towards the rear of the park. It was the end of Luna Park.

New York City, surrounded by water, also has a commercially active system of internal waterways. The Gowanus Canal in Brooklyn is one of the more historically important ones.
Domino sugar

The Domino Sugar refinery, once one of the world’s largest, had been in operation on the waterfront of Williamsburg since 1856. At one time, it processed 60% of the nation's sugar. Sadly it closed in 2004 when it’s real estate value outweighed its sugar value. What’s next. I guess more condo’s. What else?
Fish Store by the Bay

Fresh fish right from the bay. That’s Sheepshead Bay of course. And this store and others stores and restaurants lined Emmons Ave. back in the 30’s and many are still going strong. The boats still go out and the fish still get caught. The action at the Bay is still the stuff that makes Brooklyn.
B'klyn Navy Yard

The Brooklyn Navy Yard (the Yard) is now a 260 acre industrial park located on the East River on the Brooklyn waterfront between the Manhattan and Williamsburg Bridges. But from 1801 until the mid-1960's, the Yard was one of the US Navy's premier shipbuilding and ship repair facilities.
