My bike ride home. Here it is, the rough and ready video version of my bike ride home from work. Filmed entirely on location in Suzhou, China. This is my first outing in YouTube, so maybe I've compressed the file a bit more than I needed to. Hope you like it. Here's a little sign I found not far from my work yesterday. A very important message about "the sequent" that's immediately clear to all of us. right? But in my two-hour mammoth lesson yesterday, I didn't get much of that 'good stuff'. Nancy and I ...

The China Times: photos and videos
http://thechinatimes.blogspot.com/2007/09/photos-and-videos.html
With the demise of flickr here in China, and my recent discovery of facebook, I've been uploading pictures (both old and new) and some recent videos - just a few small ones about China to my facebook page. I think anyone who is reading this is probably already a Facebook member, but if your not and want to see some of this stuff, go to:. Http:/ www.facebook.com/video/? In the meantime, here's a treat that I'm sure most of you have already seen. Even so, you need to watch it again. Suzhou, Jiangsu, China.

I was talking with some friends on the weekend about some of the more unusual "things" we'd seen in Suzhou. The conversation soon degenerated into some of the more 'out-there' things. Here's some I've seen:. What's it all about? I don't know. Anyway, I've been discussing this a bit on a few forums lately, check this. Out if you're interested. This photo and the photo from the last post are both from the area within Shanghai known as the French Concession. I don't think there were ever actually many F...

The China Times: September 2009
http://thechinatimes.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html
Its now the beginning of September 2009, and we've been home in Brisbane for about 5 or 6 weeks. We spent 3 years in China and the experience changed me in a way that you'd imagine a 3 year period spent in a foreign culture would. Likewise with the friends that made up our life in Suzhou. Many expat friends from Tracey's school - so many people, but Felicity and Gerard, the Dutch girls! Tash, Melody, Byron and Lina (our great trip to the DMZ in Korea! I'm surprised at how little I've been asked about Chi...

Coolest dude in Vietnam. Have I mentioned before that occasionally you'll be watching BBC World News when a report on China, a not so favourable report begins, and then unexplainably, the TV goes black? Here's my 7 month report card:. Things I miss: friends (you guys! Here's a couple more of the photos from our Vietnam trip. I'm forever taking photos of scenery, buildings and the environment. But I think these capture the typical image of Vietnam. It's a terrible photo. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Anyway, I just did a quick google search on Chinglish menus and found this nice surprise! I know this is an obvious statement, but it's fascinating observing them all and seeing their different personalities at such a young age. you can see the smart ones, the funny ones, the loner types, the ones that are quiet and studious, the ones who are bored, the ones who try to get the teacher's approval all the time. it's a tiny snapshot of society, which is pretty cool. Where does all the food come from? Trace ...

Bike capital of the world. Vietnamese love their bikes. Here in Suzhou all the bikes are electric, they run on rechargable batteries. In Vietnam, the bikes are all noisy petrol bikes and are a form of transport for the whole family - I saw as many as 5 people on some bikes. Here's some other things I've been contemplating, in rough thematic groups:. So much to say about culture which has been dominating my thinking. I wonder if anyone has even bothered to read this far? I gotta take a break. It's taken a...

Bad Chinese fashion statements. First of all, I really want to respond to some of the comments on this blog, but I can't because it is blocked by the Ch! Nese Government and has been for sometime. But I did manage to recently set up the function that allows me to get all comments emailed to me. So I am reading them and although I'd like to respond in real-time, I can't. Oversize button up shirts that men wear. At least 2-3 sizes too big. Now, I'm not advocating muscle shirts for China, and I don'...Made ...

Nancy Goes to Hollywood. My pre-Chna, in-Chna and around-Chna blog. Please feel free to write comments, however, Blogger is blocked at the moment so I can't reply to your comments. Please also check out our photo links below. March 18, 2008. It's been a while. But I felt the need to comment on the recent unrest in a country that shall remain un-named, but that wants independence from another country which shall also remain nameless but which has the biggest population in the world. Do the people not know...
