#browngirlsmatter: January 2015
http://www.browngirlsmatter.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Saturday, January 31, 2015. Brown Girl Submission: Anta Njie. I had a bad case of writer's block one day so I called upon my friend, Anta. She is a young woman who will tell it as she sees it regardless of how anyone feels. Like all of the writers on this blog, She is fiery, for lack of a more appropriate adjective. There will definitely be an opportunity to learn more about her soon. Must it be our hips? Tuesday, January 27, 2015. A Mother’s Prayer. Arlena Florence (Cheyenne's Mother). I liked to sit do...
#browngirlsmatter: November 2014
http://www.browngirlsmatter.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Friday, November 28, 2014. Flashback Friday: Lessons Learned. It has been a while since I last sat down long enough to write a blog post. And for that, I do apologize. I have since began my final year of high school, turned 17, and began the rather stressful college admissions process. It is a time of great retrospect for many people my age (and our parents). It is also a time of observation for me. Wear what you want. Someone will always have something slick to say. That is not your burden to carry.
#browngirlsmatter: August 2014
http://www.browngirlsmatter.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
Monday, August 11, 2014. Well, I was both right and wrong. Having a job can be fun. At all of the jobs I have worked at, I have met and worked with some awesome people. We can laugh and joke around and have a good time. Something that I didn't. Consider was how I would be treated as a #browngirl. I never thought. Things like this used to hurt my feelings. Quite understand why people would go out of their way to not touch me, be near me, or treat me like I’m of lesser intelligence. I didn't. Sadly, enteri...
#browngirlsmatter: June 2014
http://www.browngirlsmatter.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
Monday, June 30, 2014. Why I cry for #browngirls? Today has been a hard day.I have shed some tears for my dearest brown girls. There have been at least three things that have hurt my feelings today, and it is not even noon yet. All them have been about how we treat young women and girls. Before I get to the point of my post, I have an observation: Why do people make such dramatic efforts to humble young #browngirls? Hair is Too Nappy. Hair is Too Straight. See where I am going with this? Quite simply, no...

Tuesday, December 16, 2014. I'm so glad to be a part of Brown Girls Matter! I'm looking forward to reaching out and getting to know you all. Just a little about me: I'm 18 years old and a proud member of the 2014 graduating class at DuPont Manual High School in Louisville, KY. I currently attend Simmons College of Kentucky and plan on transferring to the University of Kentucky in order to study Criminology. Of course, I had to get use to being completely bald. But now, I absolutely love it! Phoebe plans ...

In light of recent events, both domestically and globally, I recently found myself. Still not convinced of the sense of urgency? Black/African-American girls have a greater likelihood of growing up in a poor family and living in a single-parent household. Say, I am excited about beginning the work needed to r...
