Syracuse University has a very successful history of wrestling, but the program was cut in 2001. Syracuse University has had seven national championship wrestlers, 34 All-Americans and five Olympic wrestlers. Because of Title IX, a gender equality law, many colleges had to cut certain men's sports programs. The Syracuse wrestling program was one of its victims. New York State History.
