A log of the life and times of Byran Smucker. January 20, 2010. I weigh about five pounds more than I would like. One of my goals is to control my weight and stay in shape over the course of my lifetime. Eating judiciously and working out have long been my weight control and fitness modus operandi. I have confidence in their ability to help me meet my goals to the extent that I am reasonably disciplined in these areas. Reasonably disciplined is difficult, however. The other week, I read an article. Laquo...

Alleluia | Good and Good For You
https://joannemarie.wordpress.com/2012/04/02/alleluia
Good and Good For You. The most beautiful thing. Yesterday morning, on my walk to Yoga class, I saw many people carrying palm leaves. It was a pretty enough morning, and I wasn’t working, therefore my mood checked in at a solid 9.3. Palm Sunday. 93 is no joke. So I started to hum as I walked, as 9.3 mornings warrant. The first song that popped into my head was an Easter Hymn. “ Jesus Christ is Ris’n Today. I can remember Jeff Harris belowing this one up the stairs on several and Easter morning as a very ...

A log of the life and times of Byran Smucker. July 1, 2010. Why a 0-0 World Cup Match is More Exciting than 90% of “American” Games. Americans like to bang on soccer. It’s boring, too low-scoring, overrun by boorish hooligan-fanatics, yada yada yada. But here’s the thing, World Cup games more often pass my “heart-pounding test” than NFL games or NBA playoff games. I usually use my “heart-pounding test” to assess how much I like certain board games, like Settlers. World Statistics Day and Bad Guessing.

Good and Good For You. The smell of Chanel No. 5 is nice, but it doesn’t matter. An apartment in Manhattan is nice, but it doesn’t matter. A new pair of boots would be nice, but I already have some. So it doesn’t matter. I should loose five pounds, but it doesn’t really matter. It’s hard to be here (601 Lexington, New York, NY) if you can’t keep a constant grip on what matters. Good and Good For You. Jack Bauer, I’ve Got Your Back. The most beautiful thing. When it’s quiet, when you’ve cleared your mind, when the caffeine rush is gone, when your eyes resign to the fact that you keep putting off going to the optomotrist and have made peace with the blur around you. It’s then that you hear it, the cluster chord that matches the rhythm of your breathing, the pulse of your heart, the tone of this day’s hopes. No Responses Yet to “the most beautiful thing”.
