A Brummie's Guide to Birmingham

A Brummie's Guide to Birmingham. Wednesday, 4 September 2013. Weoley Castle is an area of South Birmingham which has the remains of an old fortified manor house. Not much remains of the house, but the bases of the stone walls can be seen. There’s more to see here than at Hawkesley House. Weoley Castle is not a castle as such; it was a manor house that had curtain walls and a moat and it was inhabited since the 12. Century. You can read more about the history here. A Brummie's Guide to Birmingham: June 2012

A Brummie's Guide to Birmingham. Friday, 29 June 2012. River Rea; Cartland Road – Dacer Close. Another section of the River Rea for this blog post, this time in reverse. I started my walk at the Cartload Road entrance to Hazelwell Park. And walked along the River back up towards Lifford. The route here is tarmacked and suitable for cyclists, walkers, wheelchair users, roller bladers. whoever! The people who sort out these routes do like their marker posts:. The walk along here is also quite short, and it...

A Brummie's Guide to Birmingham: May 2012

A Brummie's Guide to Birmingham. Wednesday, 30 May 2012. Hawkesley House, Turves Green. This moat once upon a time actually had water in it – the last time I was there (at least 5 years ago) there was some water (and even a token shopping trolley) in it. Today, I was actually really upset to see the state it is in! Yes I’m speaking from experience…. So why is there a moat, hidden away from view in Northfield? Well, there used to be a manor house here! And it turns out that this site is a quite important ...

A Brummie's Guide to Birmingham. Saturday, 27 October 2012. River Rea; Cannon Hill Park - Cartland Road. This walk is a pleasant route from Cannon Hill Park back towards Cartland Road. There is the familiar route marker near the lake, and the path leads away past a play area and a small field. The river is on the right of this path. This section is tarmacked and very popular with cyclists. Posted by Laura Hamilton. Location: Birmingham, West Midlands B13, UK. Thursday, 25 October 2012. University of Birm...

Friday, 31 August 2012. Volunteering; The Sixth Week. I have gotten all confused and befuddled. I thought this week was week 6. Turns out my head is a week late. Gah! Anywhooooo. Week six, what happened? On the Sunday, the MCC had an open day! Myself, Lukas and Lynsey were around to show people around the Natural Science floor, and to speak to visitors about the work we are doing on the collection here. It was a very long day (I had been at work in the morning! But then we discovered someone else had dum...
