We finally got a sensory integration disorder. You may notice that this feeling of mine is constant. I know that I've complained about being overwhelmed by my life many times before, both in public and private. I feel like Sisyphus. Wednesday, April 17, 2013. Only in America, apparently. Although it makes you vulnerable, it can be very freeing when you stop trying to please others. We have heard many people ask for help with this issue on the Atheist Experience podcast. Wednesday, December 26, 2012. Riding the sugar train. How do I want my kids to...

Musings on atheism, parenting, and chronic illness. Thursday, October 31, 2013. Earlier in the week there was a discussion about Halloween vs. Jesus-ween. Being an early-childhood person I love Halloween for the fun involved for kids. I strongly object to the insane amount of "sexy" and inappropriate costumes. And this article discusses returning Halloween. What are your thoughts? Is Halloween becoming too adult and over-sexualized? Are children negatively influenced by this holiday? Did that just happen?

Musings on atheism, parenting, and chronic illness. Sunday, April 27, 2014. Your misogyny is showing. It's not often that I get into arguments with people, especially on the internet; I guess what I lack in frequency I make up for in intensity. I'm sure that this argument won't be terribly interesting to most people, but it dealt with parenting and atheism, which are two of my hot button issues so it was important to me. This is what happened:. You can go fuck yourself, ignorant slut". Yikes! For a few d...

Musings on atheism, parenting, and chronic illness. Sunday, October 14, 2012. Oh, the places you'll go. I saw a sappy, sweet idea on Pinterest and could not resist doing it for my kids. The idea is to get a copy of Oh, The Places You'll Go. By Dr Seuss and have your kiddos teachers sign it as they grow up, then present it to your kids when they graduate high school. This is exactly the kind of thing that makes me giddy, so I was excited to get started. You want a physicist to speak at your funeral. That ...

Musings on atheism, parenting, and chronic illness. Friday, May 31, 2013. Of some southern pentecostal churches, and their shock when someone actually dies from it. So, I'm not 100% sure how I went from umbrellas to child-abuse in a few paragraphs, but I guess that's the way my mind works. I do think that we need to keep a close on eye on our tolerance of silly superstitions, because it is a slippery slope between avoiding the path of black cats to letting your child die from a preventable illness.
