ElkinsMission: March 2012
http://elkinsmission.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html
Sunday, March 25, 2012. This is a picture that will be forever imprinted on my heart. Soldiers blessing the sacrament. What more can I say? Friday, March 23, 2012. When I feel sorry for myself because of missing all of the wonderful friends we've made here, I'll remember the last words of our dear friend Ashley:. See you there.". Friday, March 9, 2012. It isn't going to be easy to beat me! I call this a "knot" of soldiers. Some of our soldiers elect to take marshall arts training in addition to regular P...

ElkinsMission: December 2011
http://elkinsmission.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html
Friday, December 30, 2011. I absolutely love these natural Christmas trees that grow here. The little red berries are so festive and fun! There are trees with red berries everywhere. Some have leaves, some are just berries, some are trimmed like this into a Christmas tree shape. I would like to steal one to put in my house. I wouldn't even have to decorate it! We were happy to have permission to spend Christmas with our daughter and her family. Our oldest grandson turned twelve a couple days before Chris...

ElkinsMission: Tender Mercies and Transfers
http://elkinsmission.blogspot.com/2012/01/tender-mercies-and-transfers.html
Friday, January 27, 2012. Tender Mercies and Transfers. This is a dear friend who used to come out to our Ft. Eustis Group to teach some of the Sunday lessons to the soldiers. Just before Christmas she and her husband were blessed with a sweet little son who will soon be legally adopted and sealed for eternity. What joy! We had the privilege of attending "transfer meeting" yesterday in Richmond. This is where all of the new missionaries are matched up to their companions, who will be trainers. We...This ...

ElkinsMission: September 2011
http://elkinsmission.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html
Friday, September 9, 2011. The Chaplain called us! In the afternoon we drove to the Norfolk airport (1 hour away) to get Soldier K. After a couple calls and 1 1/2 hours of flight delays we were finally able to pick him up. The poor man had been travelling all day from California and had a major headache. I knew how he felt because flying makes me sick too. We finally got him delivered back to the base. Tuesday we had to be on base early for In-Processing which is usually on Monday, but was delayed becaus...

ElkinsMission: Challenging week
http://elkinsmission.blogspot.com/2012/03/here-are-most-of-senior-missionaries-in.html
Friday, March 9, 2012. Here are most of the senior missionaries in the Virginia Richmond Mission. We get together once a quarter for a dinner and visiting. It is a great time to share experiences and laugh together. In our mission there are 4 military couples. In the whole world there are 54 military couples. Since 2005 the Ft. Eustis missionaries have had this number so it would have been a chore to contact everyone. In less than 4 weeks we will hand this phone over to a new couple. Ok, so we got the ph...

ElkinsMission: October 2011
http://elkinsmission.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html
Sunday, October 23, 2011. On the way to Norfolk there's a bridge that we pass over and enjoy the seagull perched on each light. See, a seagull for each light. Sometimes they share but usually have their own individual lights. The HRBT (Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel) is an interesting bridge that goes UNDER the River! Ships actually pass OVER the tunnel and it is huge! Our chapel recently got a portable baptismal font! It is filled with a hose connection and drained from the same hose. A common sight around...

ElkinsMission: August 2011
http://elkinsmission.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html
Thursday, August 25, 2011. Earthquakes, Hurricanes and Snakes? I went outside to remove the patio furniture so it wouldn't blow around in the hurricane. There was a snake in the corner staking out a secure place before the storm starts. Elder Elkins said, "It's just a garter snake." I said, "JUST a snake? It's a snake and that's disgusting enough! Labels: Life in Virginia. Wednesday, August 10, 2011. This robin was taking a little bath in the parking lot puddle. The White-Tailed Deer are smaller than the...
