Our Crowded Mantel: June 2011
http://ourcrowdedmantel.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html
Wednesday, June 1, 2011. We've got some little baby veggies coming up in our front-yard raised bed. It's so exciting to put the seeds in the ground and wait for something to come up. We are using the square foot gardening method which allows for maximum use of a small space compared with more traditional rows. We've got several crops planted with space slated for new additions once the season rolls on. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. Pinterest and Sweet Potato Pie Dip.

Our Crowded Mantel: Secretary
http://ourcrowdedmantel.blogspot.com/2011/12/secretary.html
Wednesday, December 28, 2011. We purchased another vintage, mid-century piece of furniture last week from a shop out of Chicago where we've had a lot of luck. The owner, Cintia, dropped this gem off before we left for Christmas travels, but we've only now had time to get it situated. It's solid teak in two separate pieces. Very sturdy and in good condition. The lighting in this room is strange, but you get the general idea from the picture. December 29, 2011 at 12:51 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Our Crowded Mantel: Pineapple Upsidedown Cake
http://ourcrowdedmantel.blogspot.com/2012/04/pineapple-upsidedown-cake.html
Sunday, April 1, 2012. I've had pineapple upside down cake on the brain lately. When we invited several friends over for a small dinner party and I knew wanted to make some kitschy, special dishes that seemed 1960's fabulous. I used an internet recipe, credit to someone named Vetrusha here. Better living through chemistry? Who the heck knows. While the second cake was more caramelized, in the future when I make this recipe I am going to put the caramel ingredients in the pan first and brown them in the o...

The Kiefer Kitchen: Side Dish - Mashed Potatoes with Roasted Garlic and Five-Spice Powder
http://kieferkitchen.blogspot.com/2011/05/side-dish-mashed-potatoes-with-roasted.html
Documenting our quest to eat more meals at home, this blog will hopefully inspire you to dine out in your own kitchen more often! Tuesday, May 3, 2011. Side Dish - Mashed Potatoes with Roasted Garlic and Five-Spice Powder. Tonight's main dish of Kalua Pig came courtesy of my shopping at Ono Kine Grindz. The other week. I really wanted to pair the pig with a nice side that had a bit of Pacific influence. While flipping through my Taste Of Hawaii. Remove from oven, let cool a bit, then chop super fine.

The Kiefer Kitchen: Dinner-Beer Pork Chops
http://kieferkitchen.blogspot.com/2013/06/dinner-beer-pork-chops.html
Documenting our quest to eat more meals at home, this blog will hopefully inspire you to dine out in your own kitchen more often! Wednesday, June 5, 2013. Drunken pork chops; beer pork chops; really damn good pork chops; whatever you call them, they are pretty much amazing. This recipe is a classic in our household. It's nice and basic, but can be easily dressed up with some nice side dishes. 8 pork chops, not too thin. 1 can beer (2 cans if you have it, c'mon the chef can always use a beer). Pour sauce ...

Our Crowded Mantel: Five-Spice Sesame Sliced Tuna & Avocado
http://ourcrowdedmantel.blogspot.com/2012/01/five-spice-sesame-sliced-tuna-avocado.html
Thursday, January 5, 2012. Five-Spice Sesame Sliced Tuna and Avocado. Tonight's pick was also most certainly scrumptious: Five Spice-Sesame Sliced Tuna and Avocado. Really easy, relatively inexpensive, minus the splurge on decent fish. I even left out the avocados by mistake and it was still nummy. Slices of seared rare tuna steak encrusted with toasted sesame seeds and chives, all drizzled with a balsamic vinegar reduction. 1/3 cup aged balsalmic vinegar. Juice of 1/2 lime. 2 T vegetable oil. On a final...

Our Crowded Mantel: December 2011
http://ourcrowdedmantel.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html
Saturday, December 31, 2011. Made deviled eggs for the first time to take to a New Year's Eve party tonight. Used a recipe from a new tapas cookbook that my Mom gave me for Christmas. Made up my own little recipe for the second batch. Peeling boiled eggs is not easy! But after two dozen I think my technique is improved. Will provide recipes if anyone is interested. Rolled anchoives and capers for one recipe. With anchovies, manchego, olives and lemon. Traditional style with parsley pulled from the garden.
