2010 July

Breaking the Cycle in Africa. From the monthly archives:. July 26, 2010. 3rd to 11th July. Hilly, tarmac to Archer’s Post; 400km of extremely rough and stony to Moyale. Cool at altitude, warm and dry in north Kenya. From Archer’s Post, I was fortunate to be able to coast along a further 65km of brand new tarmac. The scenery was superb with spectacular strips of ranges flanking the roadsides. There were many Samburu nomads milling around in the village at the end of the new tarmac. Marsabit is set on a vo...

FAQ

https://www.btcycle.com/faq

Breaking the Cycle in Africa. How many kilometres do you plan to do per day/month? We will generally cover approximately 120-130km per day if the roads are paved or at least good quality, firm but unsealed. A normal day will mean 6-8 hours of pedalling at roughly 20km/hr. Obviously less distance will be covered if pushing through 8 hours of sand or mud! How will the team stay safe travelling through Africa? Will this expedition result in a world first? There will be times when Daniel and I are away from ...

Susan in the Sahara. Saturday, November 1, 2008. What's This All About. I'm starting to have a routine and sometimes I actually know what is going on. So I thought I would try and summarize what I do. December 11, 2008 at 9:52 PM. I'd have a hard time getting used to that. Miss you so much and thinking of you lots. Susan in the Sahara: They Were Riding Six Wire Horses

http://susanrsahara.blogspot.com/2009/03/blog-post.html

Susan in the Sahara. Monday, March 16, 2009. They Were Riding Six Wire Horses. The next day we started out on the bike trip after a nice hearty breakfast of rice and onion sauce.  Dogons are known for their onion farming.  When we passed a large field of them Joe . Before I paint too rosie a picture of the serene time we had in this beautiful town here are two pictures of us at the sign in town.  This one is where we have literally beat the children off with a stick so they aren't in the picture. Susan in the Sahara: Velo

http://susanrsahara.blogspot.com/2008/10/velo.html

Susan in the Sahara. Friday, October 17, 2008. I have a bike, finally. Our bikes were caught in customs, I guess, but mine arrived at my door Wednesday evening. A total surprise, brand new, shiny and. pink. I've never had a new fancy bike, and this is a nice Trek bike. But it is a girl's bike, a concept I don't really understand. Maybe after biking in a skirt I'll appreciate a "girl's" bike, I'll get back to you on that. Why pink, is my real question? Womanyou crack me up. I love it! Loved the bicycle - ...

http://susanrsahara.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html

Susan in the Sahara. Friday, April 24, 2009. Just a short post, I promise I'm working on a long boring one. It is the start of hot season. So far it has only got to 100 degrees inside my house once. I don't count all the times it has been 99.9, or 99.7. That is not 100! Best not to think about that. On a more positive note; with the searing heat that causes back-of-the-knees sweat, come mangoes. They are amazing! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Granola and/or Granola Bars. Dried Fruits and Veggies. T-Shirts ...

Susan in the Sahara: June 2009

http://susanrsahara.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html

Susan in the Sahara. Thursday, June 25, 2009. I'm not sure how it got to be the middle of June, but turns out it is. The 2 weeks in May I spent in Morocco with Brian were fantastic. The food was amazing; fat chickens, olives, almonds, apricots, figs, strawberries, cherries, nectarines, spices, fresh squeezed orange juice, oh so many good flavors. We did do other things in between meals. We went and had tea with her host family and watched her host Mom and another woman weave. Amazing! Anything said on th...
