Having Horns: March 2013
http://havinghorns.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html
Bad Planning, Bad Luck. I also bought some big XL shirts at the thrift store to use for fabric, they were gutted and cut apart, and this one I've combined with a floral fabric I had hanging around to make a short sleeved western shirt. The light sage green fabric will become the piping on the shirt. It's all cut and ready to go once I get my new needles. Lety-RZ's super-deluxe jumbo prize package is on it's way to Texas! Hope you enjoy the miscellaneous odds and ends I've included! I've also been on a sh...

Having Horns: May 2013

Or at least trying to. Dear Jane G-5 and G-6. Two particularly fussy little blocks. I tried to do the right one as full patchwork first and it was a mess, it worked better as a partial applique. The tiny, tiny star in the middle of the star block was also tough, especially since I'm not paper piecing. Which got me thinking about hats, and so doodled out this very embarrassing and not at all stylish hat for Sal. To keep his horns warm? Somehow I don't think they get cold. But it's a nice sentiment. And a ...

Having Horns: February 2013
http://havinghorns.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html
First of all, hooray for 200 posts! But that it took so long reminds me that I need to post more. And to post more, I need to work more! But between the cat, and work, and my new interest in exercising, my time seems to slip away. Anyhoo, at the thrift store last week I did pick up two fabrics, one of which has already become this lovely pair of shorts. Every time I go back and do pants, I forget how to do the pockets and fly, and have to relearn them. Whenever I'm feeling a little lost in my own studio,...

Having Horns: March 2014

It came out a little rumpled. Part of it was that I didn't put paper behind it, so I caught a fair amount of wool in the stitching. The other part was that I didn't put it in a hoop. I thought the wool would be stiff enough to not warp, but that wasn't the case. I like the finer meshes, and the 'woven' effect on the big square. You can also see I changed threads- the more off-white thread was softer and I think made for better-looking stitches. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Me and My Work in Other Places.

Where have I been? My computer's been very on-the-fritz, I think the battery is starting to go- so I've been using my shiny new smartphone more, and I think it distracted me a bit from posting on here. The computer's still broken, but the novelty has begun to wear off on the phone, so hopefully I keep up here more. Added buttons to a bunch of things! I had just been wearing the shorts with a belt. So far I've also done the button hole on the floral shorts. And I did actually wear this today- finally!

Astrid Nadia Bucio-Marin: Lately, part 2
http://abucio.blogspot.com/2011/03/ive-been-playing-around-with-ink-lot.html
I like to shred. Tuesday, March 8, 2011. Lately, part 2. I've been playing around with ink a lot. Sticking to a small format and just black makes it super easy because there is less to choose.Besides that I've been applying to all sorts of jobs, some residencies, I'll be at the second show at the soapbox, at the expo and perhaps another show about fibers. Also, I guess I should mention here, that I now have a website. The last image is a work in progress for the show. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Having Horns: Wings and Things
http://havinghorns.blogspot.com/2014/04/wings-and-things.html
It's been a busy week at work, the spring weather is finally showing up a bit! I haven't had a ton of time to work on anything, but here's a bit of what I've been doing this week. I think too often I buy really wild fabrics, and end up having to make pretty basically shaped garments out of them, because details would get lost, or be too overwhelming. A few weeks ago, I forced myself to buy some plain, cream cotton to maybe work on something with a more interesting shape. On, I think the wing effect is ac...

Sample of two knit strands joining, cabling, then separating again. I do wish I had gotten something more suitable for this in my 'materials' grab bag though. The dark color means it's harder to see the cables, and it's linen, so there's no 'give,' which makes it harder to work with (especially for twisting the cables) But everything else I got was too fuzzy or thick to work. Having Horns: Knocking Off
http://havinghorns.blogspot.com/2014/02/knocking-off.html
Retail 'seasons' are so misleading. We're getting in tons of sandals at work, and it's got me all excited about spring clothing, despite knowing I've got a few months before it'. S really going to warm up. A brief two days of 50 degree weather also helped to fool me! But we've got snow in the forecast tomorrow, so it's back to reality. Oh well, doesn't stop me from making some new things to tuck away for warmer days. I've been seeing in a lot of stores a sort of 'jogger style' jeans, like these:. So stil...
