Why are you here alone? The stigma of solo travel | A Bucket List Lifestyle
https://bucketlistlifestyle.wordpress.com/2016/10/17/why-are-you-here-alone-the-stigma-of-solo-travel
A Bucket List Lifestyle. Chronicling my bucket list adventures. Why are you here alone? The stigma of solo travel. October 17, 2016. October 17, 2016. The number one question I get asked on my travels is “why are you here alone? 8221; Or “Wow you’re brave to come here by yourself.”. An upside to traveling alone? One bed is to throw your stuff on and the other is for sleeping. I feel a sense of accomplishment traveling alone. It gives me the chance to problem solve on my own and become completely self...

Dolphin watching tour in Jervis Bay, New South Wales Australia. Tourists snorkeling the Hol Chan Marine Reserve at the Belize Barrier Reef. Nurse Sharks in Belize waiting to be fed. In Australia, I witnessed some Japanese tourists stomping on coral and capturing fish with their hands and taking selfies. Unable to stop myself, I went off on them, explaining the dam...

A Bucket List Lifestyle. Chronicling my bucket list adventures. October 16, 2016. October 18, 2016. Anyone who knows me, knows my love for animals. Since traveling around Florida for the last year, I have seen some of the craziest animals ever! Everyday is like a safari. Here’s a gallery of my favorites. Endangered Tortoise. Don’t touch! Bacon the Boar weighs 500 lbs. No clue what it is, but it came out of a lake. Bun Bun the wild rabbit. We had a 3 day friendship. It was amazing. The Beaches of Florida.

The head of Rock Springs which consistently flows at 68 degrees year round. The bright blue hue of Rock Springs transforms it into a magical place. I couldn’t wait to stick my feet in this amazing oasis! Further down the spring, the landscape began to change. Each spot I went to was as amazing as the last, providing a variety of gorgeous views. I walked into the jungle forest, w...

A Bucket List Lifestyle. Chronicling my bucket list adventures. Bucket List Item: Swimming with Manatees. October 17, 2016. October 17, 2016. There’s only one place in Florida that is legal to swim with Manatees and that’s Crystal River on the gulf side of Fl. Due to regulations, that may be changing very soon. I’ve always wanted to get up close to these gigantic sea creatures. I booked a tour and it couldn’t have been a cooler experience. If you are ever in Florida, I highly recommend doing a manatee sn...

Batter Up! | Celia in Tokyo
https://celiaintokyo.wordpress.com/2015/05/21/batter-up
Adventures and insights of an expat in Japan. May 21, 2015. Any baseball fans out there? I’ll admit I don’t know much about the game, but it’s the adopted national sport of Japan and well, when in Rome…! If I recall correctly, the first team sport I joined was softball when I was 8 or 9. I was hopeless at it. Pretty sure the only way I ever made it to the first base was when the pitcher bowled too many fouls and I was able to ‘walk’! Whether or not I was playing a sport myself, I was always a supporter o...
Kamikochi: a Summer Escape | Celia in Tokyo
https://celiaintokyo.wordpress.com/2015/06/21/kamikochi-a-summer-escape
Adventures and insights of an expat in Japan. Kamikochi: a Summer Escape. June 21, 2015. In the middle of summer, when the concrete jungles are stifling and humid and you are barely managing to get through each day, you can either spend your weekends inside with air-conditioning… or you can leave the city and head UP! And the mountains… Wow! It was a drizzly, overcast day. Looking up towards Mt Hotaka, I could see a lot of white. It couldn’t be snow, could it? I thought I may have been imagining things&#...

Adventures and insights of an expat in Japan. Waterfall Paradise in Nikko. July 5, 2015. I arrived in Nikko well after sun down. A stunning, pink-washed sunset had been quickly replaced by the black night sky. As I got off the train, I breathed in the cool, fresh air. It was good to be back! Torii gateway into Chuzenji township. A peaceful Lake Chuzenji. Lunch with a view. Looking down towards Lake Chuzenji. It was just a beautiful place! I’m not sure what ingredients were used, but it was advertis...

Adventures and insights of an expat in Japan. Fun and Games in Junior High. June 2, 2015. As you may or may not know, I work at a combined junior high/senior high school here in Tokyo. Even though I’ve been in Japan for a few years now, it’s still fascinating for me to learn about school life here! As soon as the end-of-homeroom bell sounds at 3:30pm, the atmosphere completely changes; the school becomes a hive of activity. Everyone is out the door quicker than you can say “see you tomorrow! Aside from t...

Adventures and insights of an expat in Japan. Weekly Photo Challenge: Muse. June 28, 2015. For the Weekly Photo Challenge, Brie has got us thinking about what is our muse. Without a doubt, my biggest muse is nature itself. I am always inspired by flowers in particular and can spend hours walking around a garden taking photos! By the first 100 steps I would say the sweat was already starting to pour out! But I felt like reaching the top was an achievement, and the view over Tochigi city was beautiful.
Weekly Photo Challenge: Close Up | Celia in Tokyo

Adventures and insights of an expat in Japan. Weekly Photo Challenge: Close Up. July 27, 2015. I’m a sucker for Close Up. It’s fun to get right in there, up close and personal, and show a different perspective to things we have seen many times before. It’s a chance to bring the finer details, that you’d normally not take much notice of, into the spotlight. I need something that will stay still long enough for me to figure out what I’m doing! Thanks Brie for this week’s theme! July 27, 2015. かまきりが あじさいの花の...

A Sea of Blue in Hitachi | Celia in Tokyo
https://celiaintokyo.wordpress.com/2015/05/05/a-sea-of-blue-in-hitachi
Adventures and insights of an expat in Japan. A Sea of Blue in Hitachi. May 5, 2015. Last autumn I went to Hitachi Seaside Park in Ibaraki to check out the bright red kochia shrubs. I’d never seen anything like it! The shrubs were a stunning colour and made for a brilliant contrast to the blue sky. It looked just like a painting. Same view, different season. Which do you find more impressive? It was like seeing an army of ants crawling over the hills! On the same day (May 4th) in 2014, the park apparentl...

Bucket List Living Now - If you wait, you WON'T!
Thursday, June 20, 2013. Sorry to have been away for so long. And my only excuse would be that I have been BUCKETLIST LIVING! I have LOTS to update on the blog…. But one new arrival that can’t wait is this one. Her name is Eden Alivia. Her parents are fellow church members and when I mentioned that seeing a baby being born was on my bucket list they offered to allow me to be there during their joyous occasion. I had someone made the comment that if I had a child I saw one being born. How did I feel?
