Bucktonbirder: Americano to take away
http://bucktonbirder.blogspot.com/2014/01/americano-to-take-away.html
Friday, January 10, 2014. Americano to take away. Nice back up of Whoopers, Long tailed Ducks, Scaup and a Slav. Whilst the bird remains with the weed in the small bay it will be easy, should it go walkabouts then it might get much harder. THE only way you will get the bird to approach to within 20ft at times is if you stay in your cars, otherwise it remains at 50-100ft distance. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). A few of the best! These made the heart race! Black-throated Thrush, March 2007. Dotterel ...

The Not Very Big Year: April 2006
http://notverybigyear.blogspot.com/2006_04_01_archive.html
The Not Very Big Year. Trying to see as many British breeding birds as possible. April 30, 2006. That's Anglesey to non-Welsh speakers. A good start today before we even reached the island. Stopped at a likely-looking spot in the Ogwen valley near Bethesda, and found a singing male Redstart (Brit-tick for Darren) and a couple of scrapping Peregrines just by the road. Something pretty quickly. (if that makes sense). The first planned stop was Fedw Fawr. Next, on to RSPB South Stack on the westernmost part...

Sunday, 28 June 2015. Penduline Tit, Meadow Lane GP, 29th December 2014. This was a stunning find at the back end of 2014. Steve Blain presents "Bird Porn": Whitethroat (with bits of a Lesser)
http://steveblain.blogspot.com/2015/06/whitethroat-with-bits-of-lesser.html
Tuesday, 30 June 2015. Whitethroat (with bits of a Lesser). Is giving a passable impression of a Lesser Whitethroat amongst its usual song. This bird was found originally in 2014 by Roger Hicks in a similar area but wasn't really pinned down until last week when he relocated it. It joins a select group of species I've heard give copies of similar species songs - Firecrests that sounds like Goldecrests, and Willow Warblers that sound like Chiffchaffs - both of which I have now come across several times.
Steve Blain presents "Bird Porn": February 2014

Sunday, 23 February 2014. I eventually managed a trip up to Norfolk to see the Parrot Crossbills at Holt CP yesterday. After seeing them very briefly first thing in the morning we eventually got brilliant views around lunchtime. Not excellent photos but I was too busy actually looking at them. Choop choop! Steve Blain presents "Bird Porn": March 2014
http://steveblain.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html
Sunday, 9 March 2014. Thanks to Neil Wright, I finally got to hear the remaining Siberian Chiffchaff sing yesterday morning. And it sounds more or less like it should for a tristis. Take a listen:. But there is no doubt this wasn't a 'classic' bird, at least in my eyes. When it first arrived it looked good (see above) but you would have walked straight past it if you were only 'listening' for Siberian Chiffchaffs. Take a listen here:. Posted by Steve Blain. Steve Blain presents "Bird Porn": December 2013
http://steveblain.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html
Saturday, 21 December 2013. Strange looking beasts, aren't they! They have been at Blunham Lake for a couple of years now but can often be hard to pick out of the Wigeon flock. I think they could be hybrid Wigeon x Gadwall. Any other opinions on their identification welcome. Posted by Steve Blain. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
