Negyvenöten jutottunk ki. A negyvenötből kilencen voltunk magyarok, és hárman voltunk, akik nem sebesültünk meg. Felnőtté lettünk egyik napról a másikra. Ölállt egy jó magas orosz, rám lőtt, és eltalálta a nyakam. Odakaptam, láttam, hogy vérzek. Ahogy épp elzuhantam, azt mondtam magamnak, na, ezt megérdemelted. Itt vagy tizennégy éves, még szűz, és már halott. Már a középkorú emberek, nem a fiatalok, tehát nem a tizennyolc évesek, hanem a negyvenévesek sem értik már, hogy mit jelentett ez a háború.
