산스크리트 구나(Guna)를 번역한 말로, 연기(緣起)와 윤회를 근본으로 하는 불교에서 가장 중시하는 행위의 하나이다. 종류는 냇물에 징검다리를 놓아 다른 사람들이 쉽게 건널 수 있게 하는 월천공덕(越川功德), 가난한 사람에게 옷과 음식을 주는 구난공덕(救難功德) 걸립공덕(乞粒功德), 병든 사람에게 약을 주는 활인공덕(活人功德) 등 매우 많으며, 선한 마음으로 남을 위해 베푸는 모든 행위와 마음 씀씀이가 모두 공덕이 된다. 불사란 말 그대로 부처님의 일이다. 부처님의 일이란 인연법을 말하는 것이다. 부처님을 위한 일이란 미래세 부처님의 복전을 짖는 일이다. 특히 개금을 하고 복장을 안치하는 것은 불상에 부처님의 생명력과 위신력을 담는 것이다. 여래사는 한국 대중 불교에 기억될만한 만불보전 원불 봉안을 이루고자 한다. 불자님들의 신심과 원력이 만불보전으로 응집되길 바라는 마음으로 불사를 하고자. 극락전 관세음보살, 지장보살 봉안. 부처님 마을. 시민선방 한 평 불사.
