RVillage – Connect with other RV’ers. A new social network for connecting RV’ers launched this week and we’ve been using it to connect with other folks near us. It’s called RVillage. And is at least partly written by our friends (who we’ve never actually met, but feel like they’re old friends) at Technomadia. If you’re living the RV lifestyle, or just thinking about it, head over to RVillage (Our Village, get it? And grab a free account today. Ours is, as you would imagine, TinCanTardis. You may use these.

As I mentioned before, we tried to stop in Morro Bay. This is my kind of pool! Leslie and I are both pretty disappointed that William Randolph Hearst never invited us to spend a few weeks at his castle. Just because he died 15 years we were born is no excuse. In the spirit of “a picture is worth 1000 words” I’ll leave you with these last thoughts on this destination. A sand piper grabs a snack at sunset on the beach at Morro Bay, California. Three weeks. It’s only been three weeks since our last post yet so much has happened. We made our beeline home and arrived on time. We cleaned up and unpacked the Tardis and I was home for a whole day before I flew to Oklahoma City for a little storm chasing. It was just a couple of days but after spending months on the road, I loved the idea of just being. Big Sur, California. RVillage – Connect with other RV’ers. It’s a funny thing when you tell people you’re going to be RVing full-time. They tend to assume your life will now be margaritas on the beach 24/7. They think of the best times they’ve had in an RV, or, even more likely, the pictures they’ve seen in magazines, and they think that’s the lifestyle. Well, just like anything else in life, it’s part of the lifestyle. But. Forgetting to Plan Ahead. Nest Protect Smoke/CO Detector. Bullards Beach State Park in Bandon, Oregon. Big Sur, California. After our stay in Morro Bay, we drove up to the Monterey Bay area for a couple of nights in Marina, California. There’s not a lot to say about Marina this time – it was a quick break to get some shopping and laundry done before heading down to Big Sur. On Wednesday morning, we packed up and headed down the coast to the Big Sur Campgrounds and Cabins. Right in the middle of the Big Sur area. This little campground is awesome! Which is perfectly situated on the cliffs overlooking the P...

FAQ | Tin Can Tardis
http://tincantardis.com/faq
What made you decide to do this? This is the question we get most often, and probably the hardest to answer, mostly because there were so many factors involved over such a long period of time. In no particular order, here’s why:. Because we love to travel. Because we want to see America. Because life is too short. Because we’re sick of the rat race. Because our kids have grown and moved out. Because when Chris got cancer several years ago we got a really good perspective on what matters. Rediscovering ou...

How we connect to the internet | Tin Can Tardis
http://tincantardis.com/2013/12/08/how-we-connect-to-the-internet
How we connect to the internet. The simplest option is to use existing WiFi available at campgrounds where we stop. Usually there is free internet access via WiFi in the park but the connections are often pretty weak so the first tool in our arsenal is the WiFiRanger Sky. Since you need to drill holes to get the wire inside but once you have it wired up, it is very easy to use. This ethernet connection also means it is possible to hook it up to a router inside the trailer but more on that below. The Pepw...

Carpinteria State Beach’s Puzzle Challenge. Carpinteria State Beach’s campground is like a very large puzzle with an amazing view. The campground is located just a few miles from Santa Barbara, California and our spot was just a few steps from a beautiful beach. In order to let as many people as possible enjoy the location, though, the park has set up the campsites to be VERY close to each other. The camping sites at Carpinteria State Beach are very close to the beach, and even closer to each other.
