North to the Future: June 2008

http://buildinginanchorage.blogspot.com/2008_06_01_archive.html

Saturday, June 28, 2008. You'd Have to be There: Horned Puffins. Image and info from identify.whatbird.com and alaskatravel.com. It's no secret that Alaska has a diverse amount of flora, fauna, and wildlife that has not existed (or no longer exists) within other parts of the US and world. With T-minus 5 days until I leave, I thought I'd give you a clue into some of the different species/plants that will most likely make it into my flickr album by the end of the trip. A group of puffins has many collectiv...

North to the Future: One month back in Austin...

http://buildinginanchorage.blogspot.com/2008/08/one-month-back-in-austin.html

Thursday, August 21, 2008. One month back in Austin. And memories of the trip are still as fresh as the first day there. I do miss it. I miss the people and the friendships the most. I think about the beauty of the mountains, the cottonwood puffs in the air, the freedom of being in the wilderness with no connection to the outside world. It truly epitomized what I've tried to make my mantra: live in the moment. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Links for More Info. HFH's Global Village Program.

Wednesday, July 23, 2008. A two-week journey takes a much longer time to write. It's not always about the obvious; it's just as much about the nuances and the things you remember days down the road that make you laugh to yourself. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Links for More Info. HFH's Global Village Program. More Info on my specific trip. What an amazing journey. Official hairstyle of the trip: the French braid. You think you have it bad. R&R weekend: Seward, AK. Chili pepper and hot chocolate.

HFH Global Village trip- Alaska. It is therapeutic for me to get away from the computer every now and then. In July of 2008, I traveled to Anchorage, Alaska to build houses for Habitat for Humanity's Global Village program. I was selected to be one of 17 participants via interview process. Over the two and a half weeks of being there, I met people from so many walks of life, gained invaluable knowledge on how to build a house including learning to build walls by hand!
