Built Environment Blog: love those mills
http://builtenvironmentblog.blogspot.com/2006/08/love-those-mills.html
Tuesday, August 29. I love industrial buildings. With no other building type are designs so consistently dedicated to function as with those made for industrial production. The economics of industrialization demand that such buildings be free of any ornament that interferes with production or adds cost. Since the 1960s, western society's emerging creative economy has encouraged the conversion of many post-industrial buildings to artists' lofts and galleries. One of the most ambitious conversions star...
Built Environment Blog: brownstone brooklyn
http://builtenvironmentblog.blogspot.com/2006/10/brownstone-brooklyn.html
Sunday, October 1. Architecturally, there are a few different Brooklyns. In Williamsburg, Greenpoint, and Bushwick, industrial forms dominate the urban landscape. In some east Brooklyn neighborhoods, charming single-family homes contribute to a character that can feel a little bit more 'Long Island' than 'New York'. Growing up in New England, my first impressions of Brooklyn came from the Cosby show. Perhaps that's why today, no building says 'Brooklyn' to me like the Brownstone. Will ever get built.
Built Environment Blog: 11/01/2008 - 12/01/2008

Sunday, November 2. After a roughly year-long break, I've decided to start blogging again. Instead of keeping things going full time here at the Built Environment Blog, though, I'll be contributing several posts a month to Where. Which has evolved into an interdisciplinary forum on urbanism. With 11 international writers. Needless to say, I'm thrilled to be involved - it promises to be an interesting endeavor. (I also got to design the banner! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). 3 grand army plaza.
Built Environment Blog: viet nam
http://builtenvironmentblog.blogspot.com/2006/10/viet-nam.html
Sunday, October 29. Earlier this year, I visited Vietnam. It was, for lots of reasons, an interesting trip to Asia. Photo by Jay Brown, Lijiang Studio. In many ways, Vietnam's physical landscape typifies the parts of the planet once known as the 'third world.' Like many developing nations in the midst of industrialization, it features the startling juxtaposition of intense poverty and concentrated wealth. Located next to a modern office tower, the Cho 19-12 market sells some products. Documenting the imp...
Built Environment Blog: Re-start
http://builtenvironmentblog.blogspot.com/2010/09/re-start.html
Saturday, September 11. Heading to Dolores park last week, I noticed parallel marks in the pavement that seemed to be the shadows of an old railroad. As a relatively new resident in the Mission, I commented to my new roommate: "There must have been a streetcar line here.". Dolores Street between 17th and 18th. This map shows that there was a streetcar on Dolores in 1943 - but not between 17th and 18th. Map from Central Pacific RR Museum. One of my favorite San Francisco blogs. I'm more into soil. I tend ...

port halifax gateway: SimCity as energy advertisement
http://porthalifax.blogspot.com/2007/10/simcity-as-energy-advertisement.html
To cities and transportation networks. Tuesday, October 16, 2007. SimCity as energy advertisement. For many of us current planning students, one of our first experiences with planning was playing the seminal computer game SimCity. Of course the original game instilled those transcendent planning concepts such as Euclidean zoning and greenfield (blank slate) development, but as we dutifully separated commercial from residential areas and attempted to make our own Brasilias. Chuquicamata " LA MANSA MINGA": marzo 2011
http://chuquicamatalamansaminga.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html
Chuquicamata " LA MANSA MINGA".
Axel Foley's Corner: You Have The Mark Of The Beast On Your Left Foot

You think you know.but you have no idea. This is the diary of Axel Foley. Wednesday, July 04, 2007. You Have The Mark Of The Beast On Your Left Foot. A few weeks ago I visited my friend Sara in Santa Monica, CA. One of the highlights of the trip was my first-ever manicure/pedicure (for those reading this blog who don't know me very well, I'm not a gay homosexual; I just enjoy reading Redbook while getting my toenails buffed to a healthy shine).
