We ended up camping next to a beautiful steam after walking the last few miles through a thunderstorm. Turned out to be a great evening once the thunderstorms passed. You Don't Choose a Life, You Live One! Skip to primary content. Day Five AT Hike. May 16, 2015. We hiked eight miles today. The final three being all uphill. Our assent was approximately 1,500 feet to 4,000 feet. We found a beautiful area to camp along the ridgeline. Good news is we were able to get our tents up prior to the thunderstorms. Tough day’s hike out of The Davis Campsite. Lots of sawtooth and then a very difficult 1.3 mile assent to the evenings shelter.
