BundiNutrition: Surviving and Thriving. A Blog of World Harvest Mission's Nutrition Programs in Bundibugyo, Uganda. Saturday, July 26, 2008. Yesterday 16 male goats left our farm. I am so HAPPY. They are key in making milk accessible to the masses. Not being monogamous, they can serve hundreds of local female goats in their areas, creating tons of dairy hybrid females, in turn providing lots of milk for children. They were an incredible gift from Joy Children’s Centre. Friday, July 18, 2008. 41 females w...

Nathan's Notes: A goodbye party
http://nelwood.blogspot.com/2010/05/goodbye-party.html
Thursday, May 13, 2010. It was a fitting way to begin saying goodbye to these kids, as football has been a big part of my time here. Food, football, and laughter - all things that I have loved sharing with them in my time here. Goodbyes can be so hard and so good too. I hope you have a good transition out. May 14, 2010 at 6:10 AM. Im just now reading this, and thinking how much fun that must have been! July 20, 2010 at 5:46 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.
Nathan's Notes: The National Tournament, part 1
http://nelwood.blogspot.com/2010/05/national-tournament-part-1.html
Wednesday, May 5, 2010. The National Tournament, part 1. I'm back in Bundibugyo after 8 days in Masaka for the national secondary school football tournament with the Christ School boys. It was an experience to remember, without doubt. A week of contrasts; smiles and frowns, excitement and discouragement, sun and rain, joyful celebrations and maddening frustrations. I’ll put some pictures here, but the best ones will be those that Scott took, which I’ll post later. May 8, 2010 at 1:53 PM.

Thursday, August 27, 2009. So I'm back, blessed by my family's visit, saddened by their departure, feeling rested from a wonderful week of vacation in Kenya, stressed by shopping in Kampala, glad to be in Bundibugyo, and confronted again with the challenges and heartbreak of life here. Friday, February 26, 2010. I don't have one! But I can't tell them that. Some jocular titles that I've considered for myself here flashed through my mind - assistant bean counter, head of vermin control, nondescript duties officer - but in the end I stammered out something about being a nutrition worker with World Harvest. Sunday, February 21, 2010. What is going on here? Several interesting, frustrating, surprising cultural experiences in the the last couple of days. Monday, February 8, 2010. Lessons in...
Nathan's Notes: March 2010
http://nelwood.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html
Sunday, March 28, 2010. Life here is simply not predictable. The degree of this man's previous discomfort became clear when, after all of this, these unpleasant procedures, this surgery with minimal local anesthesia, he looked at Scott and said "God bless you Doctor." Scott injected his thigh with an antibiotic that is apparently quite painful, and his parting words to us were, "You have killed my leg." After all of that, it was his leg that we killed. Nathan's Notes: November 2009
http://nelwood.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html
Sunday, November 22, 2009. A Son's Sickness, A Father's Story. He is still sick. This disease will never leave him, and as I mentioned before, I don't know of anyone with sickle cell who has survived to adulthood. His prognosis is not good. But seeing him return from the edge of death to his normal, smiling, happy self brought joy to my heart. His father is relieved, though still scared. How could he not be? Thursday, November 19, 2009. Sunday, November 15, 2009. Friday, November 6, 2009. The blue roofs ...
Nathan's Notes: September 2009
http://nelwood.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html
Monday, September 28, 2009. A friend I miss. At just about everything. As I would appraoch my house, he would see me from a distance, raise both arms over his head, wave, and run with beaming smile and awkward stride into my arms. He is a wonderful, sad, adorable, sickly, loving, happy little boy. And his story is one that is repeated over and over here, where unstable family situations make life volatile and difficult for children. Friday, September 18, 2009. Sunday, September 13, 2009. Just a couple da...
Nathan's Notes: Africa on the Big Stage
http://nelwood.blogspot.com/2010/06/africa-on-big-stage.html
Sunday, June 13, 2010. Africa on the Big Stage. So three cheers for Ghana, who secured Africa's first win with a victory over favored Serbia earlier today. May it be the first of many celebrations across a beautiful, downtrodden, and joyful continent. I am so glad you have the World Cup. It will help you make a gentle re-entry. June 21, 2010 at 4:36 PM. And 3 more cheers for Ghana for their win over the US today. Thrilling for a downtrodden country to have reached such a height! June 26, 2010 at 2:47 PM.

BundiNutrition: Surviving and Thriving. A Blog of World Harvest Mission's Nutrition Programs in Bundibugyo, Uganda. Saturday, May 30, 2009. When I went over their weights at the end of ten weeks and calculated their weight-for-lengths, I was stunned. Out of the 17 children who finished the program that week, all but one had risen over the 85% mark, out of the acute malnutrition range. The truly amazing part is this: many of them had risen from less than 85% weight-for-length to over 100%! We are so thank...

Training A Search and Rescue Horse
Training A Search and Rescue Horse. In April 2010, I bought a 5 year old Quarter Horse by the name of "Docs Patti is Playin'" aka "Bundi". This blog will act as a log as I train this very green horse to become a rock star search and rescue horse. Wednesday, October 26, 2011. Proof that all that training is working. So my 9 year old niece led Bundi around with my 6 year old nephew on her back - both with big smiles on their faces and Bundi with her head down and plodding along completely relaxed and almos...
