The 1st visit this year was on 19th Feb and already there were lots of birds on the cliffs; that said, I took a visit a week later and some areas were devoid of birds. The Neap 19th Feb 2014. Returning again around a week later, there was a lot more activity and this was to only increase as the weeks went by. Looking north towards Clingra Stack (centre top). Gannets over 'The Greing'.

On the 5th May, my first Arctic Tern of the year returned to the shore at Ordaal and was a really welcome sight and gave the feeling that spring had finally returned. Our Easter holiday this year was going to be a return trip to North Zealand, Denmark to the farm owned by Catriona's step-sister, Selma. It's been around ten years since I last visited and were going to stay there for almost two weeks from the end of March. Close to the rear port side of the ship. Easterly winds have been dominating for a few days now. This equals the arrival of birds. I used about one hour birding yesterday and found 50 Goldcrests, 1 Marsh Warbler, 1 Reed Warbler, 1 Reed Bunting, Siskin, Wood Dove, some Blackcaps, about 40 Bramblings, 2 Barn Swallows and Common Sandpiper. Obviously many migrants had arrived. So I has quite excited to go to Svínoy this morning especially after receiving news from Mike P. about extreme rarities on Unst – Firecrest and Treecreeper. Monday, 19 September 2011. Just as it was being generally accepted that the bird had bogged off, it turns up on a freshwater pool that we had all walked past about an hour before!
