For a civilization to begin there needs to be a river valley that floods or a good irrigation system and well-developed agriculture, as in Egypt, Mesopotamia, and China. For a civilization to stay stable, it must be fairly well united in a central government, as in Egypt. Civilizations collapse when invasions occur, as in Egypt and Mesopotamia.

After reading through part three, I think that it is because the regions that people lived in had varying resources. Also, "white people" were able to move East-West along with crops, livestock, etc. with ease, while for "black people" they had to move along a North-South axis, which made it harder to trade or move at all.
