Random streets: November 2014
http://randomstreets.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Observations of transport systems on the streets of random places, at home and abroad. Monday, 24 November 2014. Jersey, Channel Islands. The Channel Islands are an archipelago off the coast of Normandy. Despite being closer to France, the islands are dependencies of the British Crown. Jersey is the largest of the Channel Islands. It is governed independently from the other islands (and its government is also independent from that of the United Kingdom). Smaller minibuses are used on some services. The d...

Random streets: Edinburgh, Scotland, UK
http://randomstreets.blogspot.com/2015/04/edinburgh-scotland-uk.html
Observations of transport systems on the streets of random places, at home and abroad. Sunday, 19 April 2015. Edinburgh, Scotland, UK. Trams had almost disappeared from the streets of British towns and cities by the early 1960s. Only one town, Blackpool on England's north west coast, held on to its trams. Since the early 1990s, trams have been reintroduced to a small number of cities in England. In 2014 Edinburgh became the latest British city, and the only city in Scotland, to open a new tram system.

Observations of transport systems on the streets of random places, at home and abroad. Friday, 19 June 2015. For my 100th post on this blog, I'll come clean about my carbon footprint. So far, my posts spread over 24 countries across two continents. (Make it 31 countries if you count principalities, dependent territories and constituent nations of the UK separately). I've posted about places from Tromsø. In arctic Norway in the north, as far south as Gran Canaria. To the Canadian city of Victoria. As wel...

Observations of transport systems on the streets of random places, at home and abroad. Sunday, 31 May 2015. A century ago, trams were a common sight in towns and cities across the United Kingdom. Fifty years later only one system survived, in the seaside town of Blackpool. More recently, trams have had a limited revival, reappearing in five towns and cities across England and, most recently, one. The city of Manchester was the first in the UK to reintroduce trams, its system opening in 1992. There are al...

Random streets: Madrid, Spain
http://randomstreets.blogspot.com/2015/07/madrid-spain.html
Observations of transport systems on the streets of random places, at home and abroad. Thursday, 2 July 2015. Europe's third largest capital city by population is Madrid. More than 3 million people live within the city boundary - only Berlin and London have larger populations. Admittedly, other cities have larger populations if you include their wider metropolitan areas. Madrid's transport system comprises an extensive network of buses, light rail, a metro and suburban rail. At the opposite end of the sc...
