London LibTeachMeet 2012 | But I do like cardigans
https://butidolikecardigans.wordpress.com/2012/05/19/london-libteachmeet-2012
The ramblings of a wannabe librarian. But I do like cardigans. Monday this week marked the occasion of two exciting ‘firsts’ for me: my first LibTeachMeet and my first attempt to live-tweet something. Two words of warning before I get started, I’m going to bravely attempt to write up my memories of the whole event so this might turn into a mammoth postand there will be many mentions of the amazing cake. The topic was Supporting Diverse Learners. Sue Merrick: Curating with students and teachers. And other...

The ramblings of a wannabe librarian. But I do like cardigans. Thing 7: real-life networks. CC image courtesy of Aidan Jones on Flickr. Throughout my traineeship I’ve been lucky to have been given lots of opportunities to go out and meet other professionals in the field. The first proper “networking” activities that I was part of was with the London Research Libraries Trainee Programme. The Arts Libraries Society), I’ve been to a workshop on art and design reference resources, an event on art libra...

The ramblings of a wannabe librarian. But I do like cardigans. Thing 8: Google Calendar. Switching to Google Calendar wouldn’t be useful to this library but after having a look around online I’ve seen lots of great examples of it in use by other libraries, especially those that run a lot of events. There are some really interesting ideas on this blog post: Musings about librarianship. Thing 7: real-life networks. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Address never made public). The ramblings of a wannabe librarian. But I do like cardigans. Thing 6: online networking. CC image courtesy of BlogMama on Flickr. It’s just that LinkedIn is not really doing anything for me right now. My fairly minimal profile hangs around in cyber space and serves the purpose of popping up as a pretty neutral top result when I google myself (see Thing 3). I found out about the LIS New Professionals Network. There’s a lot of great information and it’s really good to have a community of well...These are...

A fine WordPress.com site. Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. Newer posts →. May 23, 2012. So thing 1 involved the challenge of setting up a blog, which in my case was made moderately more challenging by my school not having Blogger enabled. Apparently there are a few google tools that do not work in a corporate/educational domain, and blogger is one of them however that may be unique to Malaysia. Thing 2 in the program of 23 things. By the end of page one, I realised I would need more t...

Lost amongst the books and 'puters. Newer posts →. Reflective Log: Monday 29th July 2013. July 29, 2013. On Monday this week I had the task of creating the new shelf end signs for all of the moved stock, both the books upstairs, and all the journals downstairs. Sorting out the 360s signs was very straightforward and easy to get on with. Sorting out the journals signs was more difficult, as I had to decipher what subject areas we now had and where (and if we had them anymore at all! Once I had finished th...

Lost amongst the books and 'puters. My new job: what I actually do. November 12, 2016. So, I wasn’t looking for a new job (I had a Five Year Plan to stay put). But a friend made a passing comment about this job that was up for grabs, and thus the seed was planted. I thought, “what the heck, I wonder if I could actually get a job like this? 8221; This led to an interview (a terrifying interview, might I add! Lost amongst the books and 'puters. Back to the World of Studenthood…. January 11, 2014. I have been a library student for an entire term, and it has been… an experience. Having had 2 years out from uni between courses, I can safely say that I am no longer cut out for student life and am most definitely looking forward to finishing, getting a job, and having some structure! Yeah That’s me. That I can if I go into something like public libraries. Newer post →. January 11, 2014. She is very lovely! You are...

Lost amongst the books and 'puters. 15 Years into my job. March 1, 2016. Hello, blog readers. It’s been a long time. This blog started as a weekly diary during my graduate traineeship at Bradford University library. It progressed to a sporadic blog about my time as a Library School student at Loughborough. My last post detailed my successful job interview for my first professional post… and then I left you in the lurch. My desk… very professional! Lost amongst the books and 'puters. June 13, 2014. Hello, library folk. It’s been a very long time since I wrote anything here because not a lot has happened worth writing about for months. However, recently I have had a spot of luck that appears to be unheard of amongst recent library graduates. Earlier this week I had a job interview for the one and only Actual Real Librarian Job that I have ever applied for. And I got it! I haven’t even finished my masters yet! The questions [that I remember]:. I ramb...

Friday, February 3, 2017. A 72 Hour Case Study of How Bizarre it is to Live in DC These Days. Day 1 - Sunday, 1/29. Five year olds in handcuffs. Green card holders stuck overseas. Mothers separated from their nursing infants. And an American immigration policy based completely on prejudice. There really should be no debate here. Organized on a day's notice in direct response to the Muslim Ban. And this time, I brought the whole family. I couldn't have said it better myself. Most poignant sign of the day.

Luni, aprilie 28, 2014. Azi am avut așa o zi de căcat, ceva ce n-ai văzut. Totuși, acum stau în pat cu shaorma mea la chiflă și doza de Cola și parcă parcă s-a mai dus putoarea. But I Don't Want to Go To Bed. Click, Swipe, or Tap to Navigate. Written by Jesse Rogers. Illustrated by Doug Henderson. It was a night like many other nights. Josie and Michael were in their pajamas and had already brushed their teeth. But I don’t want to go to bed yet, Daddy. He laughed and said, I know. I know. But going to bed isn’t so bad, in fact it can be magical. Sleep is a chance to dream, where anything can happen. Like flying through the clouds on a giant hippopotamus with wings. Asked Michael...
