Some of the Buzz from Minden. Archive March, 2016. Pahranagat Wildlife Refuge Adventure March 7-13, 2016. This is the account of my first adventure to the southeastern portion of Nevada. I joined my good college buddy, Gale, who is camp host this winter at the Pahranagat Wildlife Refuge campground that is alongside US 93 highway. It’s about an hour and a half northeast of Las Vegas and 3 miles south of Alamo, NV. You will have to double click on many of these pictures to get more detail or read text.

Some of the Buzz from Minden. Sister Trip 7 New Orleans October 14 October 19. You might recall that we had a great visit at the Rosedown Plantation in St. Francisville, LA. NOLA (New Orleans, LA) is only a little over two hours from St. Francisville, so we decided to go with the wind and see where it took us. We visited the St. Francisville Cemetery in hope of seeing some very old headstones. It was a very pretty and peaceful place (I should hope it would be peaceful! I thought at first that we might be...

Some of the Buzz from Minden. A Backyard Repast – January 2017. Quail, white crowned sparrows and a couple of those winged rats (pigeons) can be seen in this picture. Often, there are so many quail that it looks like the rocks and pavers are moving. I’ve counted up to 40 and then lost track because they are constantly moving and pecking. You can see icicles hanging from the frozen birdbath. A bird is perched on the metal tin in back of the birdbath to get a drink of fresh water that I put out each da...

Some of the Buzz from Minden. Archive July, 2016. Crossing the Threshold – July 28, 2016. Yesterday marked the end of an era in the Johnson household. For 22 plus years, BC had been an integral part of my lifethrough thick and thin. Yesterday, she crossed the threshold into the Great Beyond. In her memory, I would like to share some favorite pictures of her while thinking about what a good, ornery, independent, finicky companion she was. She loved being outside with flowers. Did you put booze in here?

Buzzard Picnic
Interview with Frederick Reiken. Conducted by Abby Holcomb. Review: Don DeLillo's Point Omega. Rick lowered the knife. He looked at the virgin. He could barely tell she was a woman. The angles of her cheeks were gone, flattened from years that left her with nothing to tell what she once was. Her feet and her hands were just rounded white stones and her robe was full of little holes as if the birds had begun to peck her away. Zap, Donnie, and You're Done. By Daniel W. Davis. When Stan opened his eyes, the...
