Firstly, because it’s one of only two books in the entire Bible that is named after a woman (the other is Esther). Secondly, Ruth is a Moabite not a Jew. When you read the word Moabite in the story of Ruth, think Gentile, think people who are not part of God’s covenant. Simply put, in this context Moabite is not a good thing. Ruth is a story about a young, but poor Moabite widow who marries a rich old man.
