Monday, 20 June 2011. Coast to Coast walk. Despite the inclement weather for much of the walk I really enjoyed the C to C. I particularly relished the variety of scenery, especially the way in which the three National Parks are separated by pastor countryside. This walk was much more dog friendly than Hadrian's Walk:- fewer high stiles to negotiate, fewer fields inhabited by feisty cattle, and the pubs virtually all welcomed walkers and dogs. Saturday, 11 June 2011. Day 10. Ennerdale Bridge to Rosthwaite (15 miles). Went round Ennerdale Water. And on to the isolated Youth Hostel at Black Sail Hut. A very stiff climb up Loft Beck to see great views back over Buttermere. Walked down to Rosthwaite via Honister Slate Quarry. Campsite was okay but 6 Chinese Ninjas were running round with water pistols. Red Army? Met up with some other C to C walkers and had a good night in The Scafell. Beer of the Day - Keswick "Thirst Pitch". Coast to Coast walk.
