cabbage tree farm

Tuesday, May 17, 2016. An update and a farewell. We're well into our Autumn here on CTF and the weather has been just fantastic. We've had some lovely warm days, not too much wind and hardly any rain. Last night we had a thunderstorm but it passed quite quickly with no damage. It is still a bit breezy this morning but there is blue sky to be seen. Monarch butterfly on Koromiko flower. Monarch butterfly on swan plant. This year I have frozen quite a lot of fruit as we will eat it in smoothies (especially ...

cabbage tree farm: January 2014

http://cabbagetreefarm.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html

Friday, January 31, 2014. We are enjoying a bumper harvest of stonefruit right now. Super juicy big plums from off our 'Louisa' trees (to the left of the basket in this photo). Basket of fresh stonefruit and plum muffins. I made some plum and banana muffins which did not last very long at all! I will make a peach trifle soon. If I get a chance I may bottle some of the better fruit too. Wednesday, January 15, 2014. Here is a basket lot I picked yesterday:. What to do with all these tomatoes? I also grew s...

cabbage tree farm: March 2015

http://cabbagetreefarm.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html

Tuesday, March 17, 2015. A couple of weeks ago I spotted Damsons for sale at our local organic shop. (Yes it has taken me all this time to write about it sorry! We do have a Damson plum tree but it is very small and a long way off fruiting, so I was thrilled to see Damsons for sale and promptly bought the lot! Instead I just cut into the fruit before putting it in the pot, and spent a bit of time once the jam was set removing the stones prior to bottling. I used this recipe. Tuesday, March 3, 2015. cabbage tree farm: December 2013

http://cabbagetreefarm.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html

Thursday, December 5, 2013. First of the peaches. We are now enjoying lots of lovely fresh juicy peaches from our 'Early Red' trees. So far (am I tempting fate by saying this? The possums have not found the trees, but we have had some windy weather which has blown a few fruit off. Early Red peach tree. This is the size of one of the peach trees. We have already harvested about 5kgs off this tree and still more to come. Looking forward to the 'Black Boy' peaches. Labels: Fruit and Nuts. A creative practic...

cabbage tree farm: April 2014

http://cabbagetreefarm.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html

Friday, April 25, 2014. A bit of time out. After some busy weeks of fruit preserving, we had a well-deserved short break away doing some good old-fashioned Kiwi camping. After a bit of a wild night with ex-cyclone Ita hitting us, the next day we tentatively headed off to the tip of Coromandel peninsula - Port Jackson. The weather was actually really good for the time of year, we had a lot of sunshine and hardly any wind. We did get a good downpour of rain one afternoon but it didn't last too long. Meanwh...

Small Farm Animals: 12/28/08 - 1/4/09

http://smallfarmanimals.blogspot.com/2008_12_28_archive.html

Wednesday, December 31, 2008. Roosters - Good or Bad? Well that's a very good question. That depends on what you want to do with your chickens. Are you keeping hens for eggs and meat or do you want to breed as well. These are the things you should consider before you look into getting a rooster. Roosters are territorial and will attack both adults and children alike (I'm talking from experience here). More than one rooster can end up with constant fights and badly injured birds if kept together. Our Farm...

THE HAPPY LARDER . Creating simple food that makes you smile. Favourites in the Larder. Wednesday, 5 February 2014. Needless to say that this weather isn't exactly inspiring summer recipes but nonetheless I'd like to share an idea for a salad - not so much a recipe but more of an inspiration to try something a bit different. I often tend to make the same old salads, so this made a very nice change and has given me a few new ideas. I hope it has inspired you too! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Simple...

Earth Day Cometh and Earth Day Goeth. And Where have all the Bees Gone? Earth Day Report by Captain Paul Watson. Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former. Albert Einstein 1879 - 1955). Earth Day is almost here. I don't believe in Earth Day myself.
