joie de beeb: July 2009
http://joiedebeeb.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html
Friday, July 31, 2009. It's the last Friday in July- how did THAT happen? This means we've got a lot of summer partying to do and only a few more weeks to pack it in. I suggest carpe-ing the diem this weekend (since the NY area weekend forecast is HOT and SUNNY) and letting your inner kid have some serious fun. If you're heading out of the city to the beach or the country, why not go back to one of the simplest pleasures summer has to offer- the Slip'N'Slide? Monday, July 27, 2009. It's gonna be a humid,...
Old McD: In the Big House
http://oldmcds.blogspot.com/2009/11/in-big-house.html
Monday, November 23, 2009. In the Big House. It's been nearly two months now since the cold drove us from the cabin up to the big house where the luxuries of insulation, heat, and a fireplace awaited. We held out as long as possible, figuring it would be the middle of October by the time it grew uncomfortable enough to flee. Nah, only made it to the last day of September. Another angle on the house and garage. Cabin, we miss you and hope to see you again next summer. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
Old McD: Big Trucks

Monday, November 23, 2009. I was lucky to catch them at work, dashing out with the camera upon returning home and finding them at work, proving that I still have a fondness for big machines, an attraction first demonstrated as a wee tyke when I frequently borrowed a book on how they build the roads and Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel. Wednesday, July 29, 2009. I didn't know about the country circus but apparently, much like touring seasonal carnivals (with which I am familiar,) there are circuses that run the circuit, throwing up the big tent in each little town for one day of festive showmanship. We caught the. The Kelly Miller Circus. Now run by a great nephew of the original Ringling Brothers, in Richfield Springs. It was quite a show, with many of the performers participating in multiple acts and. She-Hulk hungry for cotton candy!
Old McD: September 2009
http://oldmcds.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html
Wednesday, September 30, 2009. There are machines for every purpose. I like spotting farm machinery with specialized uses. For instance, this tractor attachment collects cut hay, bundles it into a compact uniform bale, and then launches that bale into the trailer behind it. It's a step up from a lawnmower that catches the cuttings in a bag. Monday, September 28, 2009. The latest in alien activity. Wednesday, September 2, 2009. Old McD: June 2009
http://oldmcds.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html
Wednesday, June 24, 2009. After the astounding Brooklyn window box success of last year, which managed to keep me in habaneros and basil pesto all summer, I was eager to try a real garden. We're in a tough spot with a lot of shade so I watched the sun's path for a week or so before picking a decent stretch of ruddy lawn that has decent exposure. Dug a small trench around the plot and. Old McD: August 2009

Friday, August 7, 2009. Peeping in windows at night. Don't get excited. They're only our windows and we're not even inside at the time the shots were taken, though that does give me a good idea for a creepy, fake stalker series. The cabin has a lovely glow as seen from the very dark surrounding area. Another shot, from the front. Detail looking in through window and kitchen doorway. Detail looking in through small kitchen window. Note plush strawberry pull on lamp. The front yard, with lady lurking.

Small, family-run dairy farms were once a huge industry here. Even when my mother was growing up, in the 1950s, they were still booming (though around this time my family sold off their dairy farm, which had originally grown hops). My grandfather used to say to my mother when she was growing up, "You know where we'll find great diner food? 4 cups whole milk.
