Bringing the community back to life - CouchSurfing
http://couchsurfing.livejournal.com/710.html
Bringing the community back to life. January 15th, 2010. It seems that this community has been rather dead since 2006 and I believe it's time to bring it back to life. Perhaps we could share here a bit of what's going on in CS communities around the world and stories about our respective CouchSurfing experiences. I'm quite lucky that I live in Helsinki where the CS community is really active. We have Weekly Meetings (hint hint hint if you're ever in Helsinki, drop by and say hello! Is t only with me so?

I was told to come here from the home brewing forum to help my undertake my wine making adventures. My mentor mostly dabbled and made decent beers, and took over and have gotten to the point of the family is excited for the next flavor. I've really gotten rounds of cheers with infusing other flavors and elements into beers and stouts, and want to move on with wines. I've already gleaned so many handy facts reading through past entries here. :D. And still get the most bang for you buck? Post a new comment.

Sake, and Wine Experiments: wine_making
http://wine-making.livejournal.com/69715.html
Sake, and Wine Experiments. I hope I did the LJ-cut thing right. The Katadyne Combi, a survivalist water-filter. The thing filters 30,000 gallons without a filter replacement (you just clean the one it comes with), and offers both Carbon and Ceramic filtration - and you can use only. Ceramic filtration as a choice (just remove the carbon). The carbon is put in by the user and is entirely optional. The left sake, is just before the final addition of rice, koji, and water, or just before. Post a new comment.

Plum/damson wine: wine_making
http://wine-making.livejournal.com/69566.html
Crazy cat lady (. I'm starting a batch of plum/damson wine today. I'm lucky in that where we live there are loads of trees that grow small plums or damsons, both red and yellow, so this batch will be a mixture of the two. The recipe that I'm using asks for red wine yeast, but I don't have any, although I do have a pot of Youngs Super Wine Yeast. What I need to know is if this should be OK to use? I know that in general you don't use damaged fruit! Thanks for your help, folks! Post a new comment.

Mead and hedgerow wines: homebrewing
http://homebrewing.livejournal.com/617110.html
Mead and hedgerow wines. New booze maker here. I have made v. simple things like sloe gin and limoncello before, but I have recently entered the world of fermentation with elderflower champagne. It's just amazing, if rather volatile. I am looking to make mead as my next project, and it need to be ready for an event in early September. I know that's not exactly ideal but I reckon I can make something palatable by then! Does anyone have any recipes/tips? IDK if anyone has tried that. Post a new comment.

Homebrewing in the U.S. and Blue Ribbon Malt: homebrewing

Christopher tm Herdt (. Homebrewing in the U.S. and Blue Ribbon Malt. I have a copy of Leigh Beadle's 1971. Brew It Yourself: A Complete Guide to the Brewing of Beer, Ale, Mead and Wine. Which is a fascinating read on a variety of levels. One ingredient common to most of his beer recipes is Blue Ribbon pre-hopped malt syrup (now known as Premier Malt. Which apparently came in at least Light, Dark, and Pale Dry varieties. Was still so readily available, 38 years after the end of Prohibition?

Magazines on Maps - Here Be Dragons. Thank you for that feed, strange maps. Jan 2nd, 2011 @ 09:59 pm. I spotted a new French-language magazine that appeals to me judging by what little I understood of the content: Carto: le Monde en Cartes. Seems to be a hard-copy thing that does for francophones around the world what. Does on the Net for the "anglosphere". Thought there might be some interest hereabouts?
