Cactus PhotoGraphics: May 2014

http://cactusphotographics.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html

Photography from the Desert Backcountry. Saturday, May 24, 2014. In a collection of essays titled, Natural Acts. David Quammen questions whether sex is necessary for reproduction. As it turns out, the answer is "No", nor is it necessary to do it in a libidinous frenzy for either bees or. Hedgehog cactus blossom is on the edge of old age. Flowers usually avoid excesses.and bees often just hang out on the edges, waiting for a photographer to go away. Globemallows come in a. Or are they just hungry? I live ...

Photography from the Desert Backcountry. Thursday, October 2, 2014. What a deep and mysterious language, the language of dreams." -. Bees lead interesting lives. Although some people do, as well, bees are smaller, get into smaller places and, from a human perspective, perceive remarkably distorted vistas of color. The palette becomes infinite from the perspective of a bee. A Teddy Bear Cholla glows fluorescent green. Hell, a bees eyes may have defined. Chartreuse before we knew what it was.

Cactus PhotoGraphics: A Swarm of Hummingbirds

http://cactusphotographics.blogspot.com/2014/08/a-swarm-of-hummingbirds.html

Photography from the Desert Backcountry. Monday, August 11, 2014. A Swarm of Hummingbirds. I'd like to say we traveled to the far reaches of the desert backcountry to get these photos but, alas, I journeyed no further than my back porch. At 30 min. past sunrise, coffee was there, also! A Rufus intent on the feeder. At an average of 50- to 80-beats per second, this is what you get with a slow shutter. Oh, my . . . Something got part of this gals wing! A youngster has trouble! http://cactusphotographics.blogspot.com/2014/06/skinny-dipping-at-lees-ferry.html

Photography from the Desert Backcountry. Saturday, June 7, 2014. Skinny Dipping at Lee's Ferry. We had driven north through the Navajo Reservation looking for cooler weather up around the Vermilion Cliffs. We didn't have permits for this wilderness area but figured we'd find good stuff on the edges. The Colorado River runs along the southern edge of Vermilion Cliffs . . . that's good, it'll provide focus and texture to our thoughts.imaginings.activity. Posted by Mel Burke at 7:50 PM. A Life Inspired by Nature: Let's go for a Walk (part 2)

http://inspiredbynaturelife.blogspot.com/2015/02/lets-go-for-walk-part-2.html

A Life Inspired by Nature. Sunday, February 1, 2015. Let's go for a Walk (part 2). Continuing our walk from last week. From the pond, we follow the Little Dry Creek (a perennial stream flowing with rains and winter snows) through bushy junipers to the property corner. You must be careful as you jump across the icy rocks, but the dogs have no problem! Thanks for going on a walk with us. We'll head out again tomorrow around the same time. The dogs and I hope to see you then. My Favorite Field Guides.

Tuesday, April 30, 2013. Project 365-ish: April 30, 2013. This teeny tiny praying mantis was on my plumeria tree yesterday. He really is an ittie bittie- just a little bit longer than my fingernail. He's a good little buggie- may he stay around and eat the unwanted pests, and get nice and big! It turns out that it was being clutched by a praying mantis, camouflaged and just out of view! I apologized, and lft him to his dinner. Image made April 29, 2013. Saturday, April 27, 2013. Started my WWPD exposure ...

Monday, September 16, 2013. Project 365-ish: September 15, 2013. We have had a really good monsoon season this year! It's been wet enough to coax the early spring poppies to bloom! When we get enough fall and winter rain, they bloom in March through April. Usually, there isn't enough rain for that to happen, and we get a modest bloom every few years or so. We didn't get a bloom this spring, but boy howdy, they came in August! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). 3,000 images- Pinhole Day, 2013!

A Life Inspired by Nature: Drawing with String

http://inspiredbynaturelife.blogspot.com/2015/01/drawing-with-string.html

A Life Inspired by Nature. Wednesday, January 14, 2015. The first pillowcase set I made for Jacob and me of our favorite dragonflies and damselflies. My pillowcase is on the left with a Rosette Skimmer, a Halloween Pennant, and an Emerald Green Jewelwing. Jacob's pillowcase has a Giant Darner (similar to a Green Darner, but an inch longer), a Rosette Skimmer, and a Rubyspot damselfly. I made my mom and dad Barn Swallow cases. I drew the birds on paper, cut it out, and traced it onto the case. Picture Win...

Here's a few illustrations and excerpts for you to enjoy. Please contact me if you are interested in reading the entire story. Ittle Silly had never been out of the yard alone before, and she felt brave. She was able to go where she liked, and stop at each new smell. Sniff, sniff, sniff. Wednesday, August 22, 2012. Paintcan pinhole camera, paper negative, 15-minute exposure, developed in caffenol C, colorized in Photoshop. Okso it is really just a weed growing out of the cement, not a tree. I pass it every time I walk in or out the door. I cheer it on as it struggles to grow out of the cement, knowing that I can live with my own struggles, as it does. Image made August 21, 2012.
