Two Shots better!: June 2010

http://golftipster.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html

Back in the USA. Sorry We've been away for a while. The news on Topping is good. Off to a Class 2 this week. He'll win. Love betting on the last round of a US tour event, epecially when the top of the leaderboard is full of players who haven't won on tour. Can Fowler get it done? The $1.79 on Betfair seems a bit skinny to say the least, but assuming he, Barnes and Petrovic all get the wobbles, there's some huge prices on Betfair for players who are more used to making winners speeches. The World Golf Blog.

Two Shots better!: February 2011

http://golftipster.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html

Early doors, Stricker for a "two-peat". Who would have guessed ten years ago that this week's two top sports stories would be about Tiger Woods spitting and an Italian headbutting the hardest footballer I ever saw? This week at Riviera, Steve Stricker. Is the obvious choice. He won last year in similar conditions, he's hard as nails and has already had two top ten finishes in 2011. Mickleson is in the field so you can get 14/1. Me, I'm going to wait until Saturday morning. Age shall not weary. Welcome ba...

Two Shots better!: Welcome back my friends to the show that never ends...

http://golftipster.blogspot.com/2014/01/welcome-back-my-friends-to-show-that.html

Welcome back my friends to the show that never ends. Golf is a game like no other. No matter how many times you've played your home course, every round is different, from the moment you launch your first tee shot hopefully into the green yonder till the putt drops into the cup on 18. The one thing I learned from my time in golf magazines was that every handicap golfer, no matter his skill or handicap all wanted to be a few shots better. Only 10% of the worlds golfers play off an elusive single figure...

Two Shots better!: Do you wanna be in the movies.

http://golftipster.blogspot.com/2014/01/do-you-wanna-be-in-movies.html

Do you wanna be in the movies. Jack Nicklaus has won more important golf tournaments than any golfer. His career straddles the semi-amateur age and the era of the millionaire golfer. During the 1960's the Golden Bear played John Lennon to Arnies "Macca" as between them they saw the world of golf, particularly in the USA transform into the multi-media, sponsor friendly juggernaut it is today. In the mid 1960's Timothy Gallwey was still to publish The Inner Game of Tennis, a seminal work on sports psycholo...

Two Shots better!: January 2010

http://golftipster.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html

Sorry about this, but on the eve of the big man's return to pro golf, I'm backing Ryan Palmer again. Three doubles and too many bogeys meant that he didn't finish in the top 10 in the Crosby marathon but one round of 8 under was enough to show he's still in the game. You're welcome to the 8/1 on offer about Mickleson on his return but we'll be taking the 140/1 about the Hawaii winner. And on the subject of Hawaii, we'll be saying "no thanks" to the 25/1 about Allenby. Claw or not, he can't. It's not norm...

Two Shots better!: Golf magazines and me. It's been emotional.

http://golftipster.blogspot.com/2014/01/golf-magazines-and-me-it-been-emotional.html

Golf magazines and me. Its been emotional. The late 1980's, long before the internet and social media, were a golden period for the magazine business. Desk top computers were taking over from the traditional publishing arts of typesetting and composition and new printing technologies meant that magazines could for the first time be printed cheaply and in full colour throughout. To my eye, both were relics of a bygone age. It seemed to me that as golf was growing, with new pay to play courses springing up...

Two Shots better!: August 2009

http://golftipster.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html

Turn, turn, turn. Been doing a Faldo. Hidden away trying to perfect the swing and inevitably have hit the wall with this shoulder turn business. No turn equals sway. Sway equals steep attack, huge divots and missing a green with a wedge. That's bad. So after another night bashing balls at the range, I need to remember this. 1-2-3, 1-2-3, 1-2-3, 1-2-3 and so on. Has to be easier than turning the core to face my knee. Another classic from the idiots at TG. Take it shot by shot. Will let you know.

Two Shots better!: January 2014

http://golftipster.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html

Five under, 7 birdies. Had the pleasure of playing in an LPGA Australian pro-am earlier this year with French pro golfer Joanna Klatten. Jo's a regular visitor to Aus and a few weeks later blitzed the field to shoot a course record 63 in the last round to win the NSW open. Jo's a star in the making and delightful company to boot, but I wanted to share and recommend the opportunities to observe great golfers at work by playing in pro-ams like these. The women's game is different. Whilst many of them h...

Two Shots better!: Woosie and the Killer Whale

http://golftipster.blogspot.com/2014/01/woosie-and-killer-whale.html

Woosie and the Killer Whale. Measuring five foot nothing and armed with forearms that actually were hewn from spending his teenage summers down on the farm, Ian Woosnam sure knew how to hit a golf ball. Using a driver fashioned, incredibly, from a lump of wood, the pint sized taff outdrove virtually everybody on the tour, sometimes hitting it over 250 meters. Wow. And then along came John Daly and his Wilson Killer Whale. Resembling a thimble now compared with modern clubs, the Killer Whale was huge.

Two Shots better!: Take more club

http://golftipster.blogspot.com/2014/01/take-more-club.html

Probably the most obvious difference between the pro game and the weekend golfer is the ridiculous distances that the top players hit their irons nowadays. Even swinging at 80 percent of their speed, we get used to seeing a caddy pull an eight or nine iron out of the bag when his master is still 160 meters from the green. Especially on par threes. The simplest tip for playing any par three, no matter how scary looking, is this. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Image: handy ca...
