The History of the CAF. Fairchild PT-26 (Under Restoration). In 1988 eight people with an interest in preserving aviation history began the process to form The Spirit of Tulsa Squadron. On November 17, 1990, the newest unit of the national Commemorative Air Force was officially sanctioned. From these small beginnings grew a vibrant organization more than 75 members strong. The History of the CAF. Fairchild PT-26 (Under Restoration). CAF Colonel: $200 per year. As a CAF Colonel, you are eligible to:. Become a member of a CAF Unit or Aircraft Support Team. Fly in CAF aircraft on a space-available basis as qualified crew. CAF Name tag, wings and Commission Certificate. Active Military, Guard and Reserve personnel can join the CAF at the Colonel level for a discounted rate of just $100. Dues will remain $100 annually while on Active Service in the U.S. Military. A gold name tag.

The History of the CAF. Fairchild PT-26 (Under Restoration). The Spirit of Tulsa Squadron workers have built and are maintaining a flyable PT-19, primary training aircraft. This two seater, open cockpit plane was the first aircraft in which prospective Army Air Corp pilots flew. Over 7,000 PT-19 trainers were built, but today fewer than 100 remain. Of that 100, approximately 40 are still flying. PT-26 Trainer – (Under restoration). Aeronca L-3 – (Under restoration).

Lloyd Nolen and a small group of ex-service pilots from the Rio Grande Valley in Texas pooled their money to purchase a P-51 Mustang in 1957.
