Sunday, 16 November 2008. Japan without a guide book . But with Daphna, who lived there for ten years, speaks fluent Japanese and knows all the best bits to see! We stayed in a ryokan hotel, drank Japanese Starbucks, received Autumnal sweets and had a very big, very deep Japanese bath and ate the best sushi I have ever had. And that was just the first night. Saturday, 29 November 2008. After Itsuko's fantastic gig in a downstairs Jazz Bar. An almost unbearably Murakami evening, there was even a cat outside the hotel as we crept home via the back door. Itsuko and her clarinetist, Hugh, who studied in Leeds. Shinkansen . one of many . Tokyo Station. Daphna in the late afternoon sun. Rice drying in the fields on the way back from Hakone. These little pancakes are marked with a cast iron stamp which shows that they are from a spa town. Surrey to Singapore .

One little girl raised her hand and said "Disneyland! Katsu lunch, 18th floor Takashimaya. Harojuku punks at the train station.
