Caitlin Murphey Classical Foundations

Caitlin Murphey Classical Foundations. Wednesday, April 29, 2009. All Must Come to an End. To begin my farewell, I would like to point out that I enjoyed this class immensely. It was by far the most entertaining class that I took this semester, and I really enjoyed. The texts that we read as well. To be completely honest, (and please don't take offense to this Dr. Sexon. After class to make it through the day. Although many of them were very knowledgeable. Droning on. However, I was very pleasantly.

Caitlin Murphey Classical Foundations: Loving Cupid

http://caitlinmurpheyclassicalfoundations.blogspot.com/2009/04/loving-cupid.html

Caitlin Murphey Classical Foundations. Wednesday, April 15, 2009. The aspect of the story of Cupid and Psyche that I found most intriguing. Was the idea of falling in love with love. Although it seems that Psyche does in fact love her "invisible lover" before she sees him, in the moment that she pricks her finger quite she literally. Her own fate of unrequited love. For although Cupid very likely has the ability to love, love most definitely. Does not have the ability to return that which she feels for it.

Caitlin Murphey Classical Foundations. Friday, January 30, 2009. Tale of a Trickster. I am taking both Classical Foundations of Literature and Mythologies this semester. And have found that there are in fact a lot of similarities between many Greek and Roman stories and those of other cultures. Perhaps the most obvious similarities. Are found in the tales of tricksters. We read the tale of Hermes for this class, but I have read many other trickster. Epic" It is an oral story told by the Nyanga. Me how mu...

Caitlin Murphey Classical Foundations: Day One Individual Presentations

http://caitlinmurpheyclassicalfoundations.blogspot.com/2009/04/day-one-individual-presentations.html

Caitlin Murphey Classical Foundations. Monday, April 20, 2009. Day One Individual Presentations. I thoroughly enjoyed all of the individual presentations given today. I wish that we would have had more time to discuss what everyone wrote about, but the lack of time made that impossible of course. Since numerous peopled presented today, I can of figured that it would be best to kind of focus on a point or two from the ones that I found most interesting. Caitlin Murphey 's Blogs. Caitlin Murphey Classical Foundations: Day Three Individual Presentations

http://caitlinmurpheyclassicalfoundations.blogspot.com/2009/04/day-three-individual-presentations.html

Caitlin Murphey Classical Foundations. Wednesday, April 22, 2009. Day Three Individual Presentations. One presentation that stuck out to me was Biz's. It is funny because the first thing that came to my mind when I learned that we were going to read Ovid's. Was Kafka's book. I had actually even though about writing my paper on it as well, although I would have taken a very different approach. Her idea that both Luscious and Gregor's transformations were caused by their soul. One, and I enjoyed hearing it.

Erica's Classical Foundations Blog: Metempsychosis

http://eng213ek.blogspot.com/2009/04/things-are-starting-to-wind-down-for.html

Erica's Classical Foundations Blog. This really touches on the idea that souls are trapped in the prison of our bodies, and after death, the soul is freed, but only to be trapped in another body. This has got me thinking, how can we, as humans, take our souls back to a feeling of freedom while we are still living? So, how can I help my soul help itself? Well, I could die. But I'm going to vote NO on that one. At least for a few years. So, is it a hike through Hyalite that helps feed our souls?

Erica's Classical Foundations Blog. The Past Possesses Almost Everything. This weekend I decided to take a quick break from the required reading for my classes and read a book that a classmate lent to me,. The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian. I read that and thought, 'Well, of course, man. We Indians have LOST EVERYTHING. We lost our native land, we lost our languages, we lost our songs and dances. We lost each other. We only know how to lose and be lost.' " (172-3). A cartoon from the book:.

ENGL 213: March 2009

http://lukeforney.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html

Sunday, March 29, 2009. An Imaginary Life: Relationships to Texts and Today. Of immediate notice is the lyrical voice throughout the novel. While still very much prose, the words and sentences flow off the page and, when spoken aloud, slither through the air with grace almost equal to Ovid’s own poetic verse. The elegant yet simple way of telling Ovid’s story lends Malouf a tone very much mythic in feel, just as Ovid’s work portrayed the myths of his culture. Apology, Authors, and Maybe More! First, a di...

Classical Foundations of Lit. - Shoni Schipman: Transformation is the Key

http://engl213sms.blogspot.com/2009/03/transformation-is-key.html

Classical Foundations of Lit. - Shoni Schipman. Sunday, March 29, 2009. Transformation is the Key. 8220;It is that that drives us on to what we must finally become. We have only to conceive of the possibility and somehow the spirit works in us to make it actual. This is the true meaning of transformation. This is the real metamorphosis” (64). Or is the meaning of “classic” something that has rendered to a metamorphosis but is still viewed as a traditional art form despite its transformation?

ENGL 213: April 2009

http://lukeforney.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html

Wednesday, April 29, 2009. An Addendum to the Summation. Monday, April 27, 2009. What have I learned this semester from this class? I lived the classics. Maybe not as much at the beginning, but at the end. The changes in Ovid matched changes in my own life, and the hectic nature of Euripides certainly mirrored some things I was going through (though not nearly to the extent he portrayed, thank God). What did you say? But it's still super special shit. Meghan: Yeah.I know. Eagle-eyed readers may notice th...

Classical Foundations of Lit. - Shoni Schipman: The Past Possesses the Present. . . In Movies

http://engl213sms.blogspot.com/2009/04/past-possesses-present-in-movies.html

Classical Foundations of Lit. - Shoni Schipman. Thursday, April 16, 2009. The Past Possesses the Present. . . In Movies. The first movie I put onto my shelf at home was an old favorite of mine, Legends of the Fall. I didn’t have to reflect long about how this filmed tied into ancient Greek literature. Legends of the Fall is essentially a heart-wrenching story of the feuds amongst brothers. Sound familiar? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). ENGL 213 Blog List. Death is the Mother of Beauty.
