Villa Mir Farm: January 2006
http://villamir.blogspot.com/2006_01_01_archive.html
Sunday, January 29, 2006. Well, its the end of January. Hasn't been a very hard winter in Chardon. This year, rather more snow than usual for November and December, but considerably less in January. Next week our neighbor from Punxsutawney. Will let us know what to expect for the rest of the winter. Regardless of his prognostication, with February just around the corner, we're coming into maple syruping season. For sap collection. Back when we were kids, our sugarbush produced about 100 gallons. This sum...

Villa Mir Farm: August 2006
http://villamir.blogspot.com/2006_08_01_archive.html
Wednesday, August 16, 2006. One thing that is new at the farm is that Paul's new house is going up in the far end of the old hayfield. (Based on how this family operates, we will probably still be calling it 'Paul's new house' 20 years from now! The views from this house are just spectacular. Looking northward, towards the lake, on a clear day you can see miles of the lake from a 10-mile distance. And there is not ONE house in sight! Just incredible. Plans are they will move in by the end of the year.

Villa Mir Farm: March 2006

Wednesday, March 29, 2006. Our neighbor, Jim Blum, has become a local celebrity as host of the folk music program at Kent's radio station, WKSU (89.7) You can read all about Jim here. But it doesn't do justice to his quirky and charming personality! Better yet, I've discovered you can listen to Jim on the web at Folk Alley. Posted by Carol at 5:44 PM. Friday, March 17, 2006. Neither snow, nor rain, nor dark of night. Posted by Carol at 8:27 AM. Kovac Valentine Family Blog. Baby Goats Come to Villa Mir!

Villa Mir Farm: December 2005
http://villamir.blogspot.com/2005_12_01_archive.html
Friday, December 30, 2005. Well, I know it has been a long time since I posted here - fall is always a busy time for me at work, and hasn't allowed much time for farming! Some good news - we were approved in October by the county for another year of CAUV (agricultural tax status). But this is with the caution that we have to demonstrate activity to return more of the land into agricultural use. So now its time to get a little. Serious - enough with the alpaca jokes! T-end loader. Here. Of course, it can ...

Villa Mir Farm: September 2005

Tuesday, September 06, 2005. Sheep Go to Heaven G. Sheep Go to Heaven, Goats Go to Hell. For some time now, even before I started thinking about taking on Villa Mir Farm, I have been interested in goats. Despite the fact that I have no way to take care of goats on a year-round basis at this time, I'm indulging my fancy and looking around at various goat-farming endeavors. Also you have to have some plan to deal with the males, who are not particularly useful in a dairy! Lisa and Rick Agee run Goatboy Farm.

Friday, September 08, 2006. Posted by Carol at 9:59 AM. Thursday, September 07, 2006. Some old photo's - and an interesting artist! These two views are looking northwest, towards the lake. You can see just miles and miles of the lake in the second picture. Today, it is much more overgrown, but you can still see the lake on a clear day. These pictures remind me of the landscapes of Paul Balmer, an artist I've recently become interested in. You can see why if you visit his website here.

Villa Mir Farm: July 2005
http://villamir.blogspot.com/2005_07_01_archive.html
Sunday, July 31, 2005. I just got in from working in my Connecticut garden, and finished the really delightful task of harvesting my lavender. Who doesn't love this plant? Its pest-free, really pretty, smells wonderful. I am thinking we should put a whole field of lavender in at Villa Mir Farm. 2) There are quite a few farms out there, nonetheless, which appear to focus on 'agritourism' and 'entertainment farming' (didn't know there was such a thing, it doesn't sound serious does it? 4) Lavender has a va...

Villa Mir Farm: August 2005

Friday, August 19, 2005. Thanks, Mom and Dad! I think it's time to go back to the beginning and recognize the ones who started the farm. My parents, Paul and Caroline Kovac, were married in 1948 - here's a picture of them taken on their wedding day. While Villa Mir was never a fully working commercial farm, it provided us and many of our friends and neighbors with home-grown food and a deep and abiding love for growing things. Posted by Carol at 6:44 AM. Saturday, August 13, 2005. Another week on the farm.

Villa Mir Farm: February 2006

Monday, February 27, 2006. Latest news from the Geauga County sheriff's department is they've got a new dawg. Midge, a 2-lb chihuahua, is holding her own with the big dogs of law enforcement. Here's the story from WKYC-TV:. Went to high school with Dan McClelland - and he's married to my friend Carol Sue's sister Bev. Haven't seen him in years and years - but he sure looks good in a sheriff's uniform! Posted by Carol at 3:40 PM. Saturday, February 25, 2006. Farm n' Fun 2006. Posted by Carol at 9:50 AM.
