good buddies and beer: Day #1 is down
http://cakeface.blogspot.com/2008/01/day-1-is-down.html
Good buddies and beer. A blog by Ryan Pollock. Wednesday, January 02, 2008. Day #1 is down. I got up New Year's morning and laced up my shoes for my daily run #1 out of 365. Fighting a hangover, snow, and the hills of New Hampshire I struggled through a good 27 minutes. Posted by pollock @ 9:29 AM. Sorry to point this out, but you seem to have forgotten February 29th. If you run 365 days in 2008, you loose the second bet, and possibly the first. Hope it works out. 100 on 100 is in August.

http://cakeface.blogspot.com/2008/03/catching-up.html
Good buddies and beer. A blog by Ryan Pollock. Saturday, March 29, 2008. It's been a while since I've posted and a lot has happened! The biggest thing is that I got married! It was the greatest day ever. The wedding was in Sandwich, NH on March 15. Thanks so much to everyone who came! Tora and I were so happy with how it went and that we could share it with so many great people. Posted by pollock @ 7:50 PM. You are going to have to do another catch up post. Just wondering if you are still alive on here?
good buddies and beer: How to Fix a Website
http://cakeface.blogspot.com/2007/12/how-to-fix-website.html
Good buddies and beer. A blog by Ryan Pollock. Thursday, December 13, 2007. How to Fix a Website. I've solved the mystery of fixing outdated websites. This technique will work on anything from that homepage. With the neon rotating banner that you made in '97 to the ecommerce site you made last year. Just follow these three easy steps:. Cut a hole in the site. Put your junk in that site! Have someone open your site. And that's the way you do it! Posted by pollock @ 11:17 AM.

good buddies and beer: Run #2
http://cakeface.blogspot.com/2008/01/run-2.html
Good buddies and beer. A blog by Ryan Pollock. Wednesday, January 02, 2008. We both had a hard time coming up with the appropriate gear to run in the cold and at night. We were short one lobster mit, my nice pair of tights, her headlamp, and both of our reflective vests. I guess I need to start digging around for lost stuff, or make up a list for my birthday. I'm a little worried about tomorrow morning. The plan is to get up and run before work but its going to be freakin freezing.

A Teacher's Education: 2007.12
http://bcpangiemat.blogspot.com/2007_12_01_archive.html
Pygmalion From The Start. Recently I found out my student teaching placements; both are near-by districts, and both are. It also goes beyond the customers in the local area. In talking to individuals who have never set foot in this district, or even the town, I have heard them begin to demean the students and the district. Where does this bias come from? Is it because it is an urban district? Is it that it is a seemingly troubled city? Why this unfounded bias? Today marked the last class of the class for...
A Teacher's Education: Jude in the Classroom
http://bcpangiemat.blogspot.com/2007/11/jude-in-classroom.html
Jude in the Classroom. The other day I posted a list of books. That I need for this class that I am undertaking independently. I have some further information about that, but I'll get to it later. This past vacation I spent a good deal of time reading Jude the Obscure. Students are not usually big into reading, so it is important that we find novels that fit state guidelines. But at the same time, have qualities that interest them. While Jude the Obscure. I think some of the males may take to it as this ...

A Teacher's Education: Last Class
http://bcpangiemat.blogspot.com/2007/12/last-class.html
Today marked the last class of the class for whom I was TA'ing, and the source of stories found in this blog. Do not fear, for next semester I will be student teaching, and continuing work on my Graduate Assistantship, so undoubtedly I will have more to share. Anyway, today's class was spent going over the final exam students will be writing a week from today, and I led the discussion. For the final, students are required to use two texts, one an article from Harper's. That I mentioned earlier. There is ...
A Teacher's Education: Gleaning
http://bcpangiemat.blogspot.com/2007/11/gleaning.html
The other day, the Professor was out and I had to begin students in on the third unit by showing them the video The Gleaners and I. This last idea really irked some students. They found it "disgusting". However, a few of the students looked on in silence with a look on their face that explained to me that while maybe they were not forced to scrounge food out of the trash to survive as children, they know what it is to not have. Pay for something that would otherwise rot and go to waste. With this last ex...
A Teacher's Education: 2007.10
http://bcpangiemat.blogspot.com/2007_10_01_archive.html
Most of my free time this weekend was spent preparing for class. This morning. I pawed through drafts slowly, writing insightful comments here and there, asking questions meant to provoke thought. I finished last night around one in the morning, and then crashed. Beeping groceries for eight hours and then reading intro level papers can lead to wonderful exhaustion of both the physical and mental state. Nonetheless, I prevailed. I'm stuck. At the college level do we require students to speak? If you will,...

A Teacher's Education: No More Grading
http://bcpangiemat.blogspot.com/2007/12/no-more-grading.html
The group consists of some decent students, but the thing is, they are quiet. Eerily quiet. This makes for any discussion difficult. They do not like to answer questions that I ask, and giving their individual opinions is unheard of. Instead of a group discussion, I am forced to pose questions and prod them gently with a heavy club to illicit an answer. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. A Teacher's Education: Thanksgiving Drafts
http://bcpangiemat.blogspot.com/2007/11/thanksgiving-drafts.html
The students third rough draft is coming up; it's due the Monday after Thanksgiving Break. The due date was supposed to be the Monday before break, but things got pushed back. And the students had some work to do over break. Initially, there was some groaning, but I stepped in and told them I had work due on the actual Day of Thanks. Yes, it is an online class and we are at will to get our work done, but none-the-less, there were things due on Thanksgiving. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). EDU511Liter...
