Cake On Saturday: February 2016
http://cakeonsaturday.blogspot.com/2016_02_01_archive.html
A memoir inspired by my New Year's resolution to follow a lost family practice of baking a cake every Saturday. Thursday, February 11, 2016. Another Layer of Love at the Very End. My Granna died on Tuesday. Valentine's Day would have been her 89th birthday. It is said that when you are born, you have your mother there to help you along; but that everyone dies alone. That is certainly true. She expanded the universe of experiences for all of us in her family. She touched all who knew her with her grace.

A memoir inspired by my New Year's resolution to follow a lost family practice of baking a cake every Saturday. Saturday, January 2, 2016. 2015 Re-Bake and the Recipe for my New Year. Yesterday, I thought for quite a while about resolutions. The Cake on Saturday resolution of the past year has changed my life. Best of all, I have had the opportunity to share my false steps and triumphs with Granna each week when I took her a slice of Saturday cake on my visits to the nursing home. View my complete profile.

A memoir inspired by my New Year's resolution to follow a lost family practice of baking a cake every Saturday. Sunday, June 28, 2015. June 28: Pearl's Banana Cake. Please accept my apology. This week the Saturday Cake had to be postponed to a Sunday Cake! Last night they smelled like ripe bananas, but still had no brown spots. This morning, behold: ripe bananas! This cake recipe comes from my folder of clippings. It is from the December 2002 issue of Gourmet. Top of the cake. The filling between layers.

A memoir inspired by my New Year's resolution to follow a lost family practice of baking a cake every Saturday. Saturday, April 25, 2015. April 25: Robert E. Lee Cake. Among my many cookbooks from Bonnie Slotnick's Cookbooks. In New York is Housekeeping In Old Virginia. Ad on reverse of clipping. The best parts of old cookbooks are the clues left behind that tell you about the previous owner of the book. Inside the pages of my practically pristine copy of Housekeeping In Old Virginia. The Life of a House: February 2015
http://thelifeofahouse.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
The Life of a House. Saturday, February 28, 2015. The beauty of the "clipping mask". I had a wonderful lesson the other day from a friend. She showed me how to use "clipping mask" in Adobe Illustrator! Now that I've been shown the right way to do it, I have these beautifully clear letters. I love the blue T. I like it because it plays with both of my initials. Wednesday, February 25, 2015. One cat is fine with that, the other is rather impatient to go out. When I haven't been snuggled under blankets, I'v...
The Life of a House: September 2014
http://thelifeofahouse.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
The Life of a House. Sunday, September 14, 2014. Heads up: this is a sort of ranty post about allergies and only has one yucky picture. Stay tuned for later in the week, I want to post a more beautiful post. Until the receptionist informed me about "In preparation for your appointment." I could not take any antihistamines for 5 days before the appointment. None. Zip. Nadda. Oh boy. I sipped this all morning. Around noon I realized, I felt pretty good! A quick google search shows that in fact it does!
The Life of a House: My Garden
http://thelifeofahouse.blogspot.com/2015/07/my-garden.html
The Life of a House. Tuesday, July 14, 2015. Man is a bundle of relations, a knot of roots,. Whose flower and fruitage is the world.". My garden is beautiful. I love spending time here. In light of my last post I thought I would elaborate. I am in my garden, enjoying a pleasant summer evening. There was a brief rain storm right before I was supposed to leave work, and now, while the air is humid, there is a wonderful breeze and it feels very comfortable. In my garden, I have sunflowers. Lots of them.

The Life of a House. Saturday, June 20, 2015. I am in the Berkshires at Melanie's again. I took the train along the Hudson River to Albany and she picked me up there. Three hours of this view:. And don't even get me started on the leg room! So yes, here I am at Melanie and Doug's lovely home and I always show this view from the kitchen window:. This time, I thought I'd show a few alternate views. The back of the house from the back yard:. Melanie's parlsey, sage, rosemary and thyme garden:. Why am I here?

The Life of a House. Friday, August 14, 2015. You might be in California if. You might be in California if by the end of the day it is 98°F and you are burning your bare feet even on the shady parts of the pavement. But when you wake up in the morning it is 68°F and you have to put a sweater on before going outside. If you are early enough you can smell the desert sage coming down from the hills. You might be in California if the first order of business is to go to El Cholo. I was am aaaaaa. In Philly he...
The Life of a House: December 2014
http://thelifeofahouse.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
The Life of a House. Tuesday, December 30, 2014. Biting off more than I can chew - part 4. So close - so close to being finished! I put the "gimp" on yesterday. How do you like that for a final vocabulary word for 2014. Gimp is the pretty green stuff on the edging of the furniture to hide the ugly hardware that actually keep the fabric in place. In my case oodles of staples. This had to be the easiest part of the whole project. You just use a hot glue gun. As usual, I had plenty of help. Okay, it's not q...
The Life of a House: March 2015
http://thelifeofahouse.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
The Life of a House. Monday, March 30, 2015. Even though I haven't mentioned many house projects lately, it doesn't mean they aren't' still there. Oh they are, I've just accepted them as part of the fabric of my life. But some things -. Are a time sensitive situation. This is my front gate. By all appearances, puh-LENTY of room for peoples to travel into my property. But for some reason that little patch of ground, just inside the gate post, always. That will be a nice "welcome home.". Tomorrow it is sup...

The Life of a House. Thursday, January 8, 2015. Return to the great freeze. This is were I was on Tuesday afternoon. 82°F Eating a sandwich with my parents enjoying the sun, wind and waves. It was glorious. Now I'm home in Philadelphia. Really (insert favorite explative here). It was 10°F when I woke up and now at almost noon it is still only 18°F. It's even too cold for Jacques. He went out for about 15 minutes. But now we are all snuggled up on the bed together. Saturday, January 3, 2015. Doi So after ...

The Life of a House. Friday, July 17, 2015. My Garden and More Research. How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. So this is interesting - a flower column. The ones on the side, between me and the Els are doing beautifully. It is such a joy to look out the second floor window in the morning and see the little pink and purple buds. This morning I went out to survey the garden and picked a bounty of cherry tomatoes. I just went out because I had a hankerin' for a green tomato frittata. I was barely dragg...

The Life of a House. Monday, August 25, 2014. The Bee Man Cameth. Yes he did. He came yesterday. And as it turns out this was quite an auspicious day for him to come. In the morning I had received an email notification of the Convivio Book of Days. Blog post for August 24th, St. Bartholomew's Day. It is quite an entertaining post for us book artists and bee hosts. In case you aren't going to follow that link, I'll sum up the important points. 1 St Bart is the patron saint of tanners and butchers. Why?
