Calico & Cream

Sunday, 22 March 2015. Thursday, 12 March 2015. Continuing on the theme of line, but relaxing the rules slightly to include 'flat stuff' I've been playing with couching. I very rarely work with black fabric, but the colours on this piece needed it. The couched sample could quite easily be an abstract representation of membrane structures inside plant cells. The painted lines that I initially roller-printed on to the fabric probably enhances that idea. Friday, 27 February 2015. Kebab sticks wrapped in a v...

Calico & Cream: Mixed Media Collage

http://calicoandcream.blogspot.com/2014/03/mixed-media-collage.html

Sunday, 23 March 2014. I'm about six months into my visual arts diploma and so far it's been an eclectic mix. My latest short course went under the heading of mixed media collage A nicely vague title which could cover almost anything! What it actually turned out to be was a few days of glorious fun printing, painting, cutting and sticking in a sun filled orangery at the centre of a crocus strewn lawn. You see how I suffer for my art! A favourite colour palette. Just a few lines scratched in a tray. I cou...

Calico & Cream: December 2013

http://calicoandcream.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html

Sunday, 29 December 2013. Lace making is not a difficult process, it is very logical and quite therapeutic. As with knitting, there are a limited number of stitches, but endless combinations. A fully 'dressed' lace pillow can appear daunting, but no matter how many bobbins your pattern calls for you only ever move one pair at a time. In other news, my little book for children seems to be selling quite well. If you'd like a copy and missed the details of how to download it, you'll find them HERE.

Calico & Cream: New Bulbs

http://calicoandcream.blogspot.com/2015/02/new-bulbs.html

Monday, 23 February 2015. Two new bulbs have taken pride of place among all the early Narcissi in my alpine house this month. One is a snowdrop that looks as if its petals have been quilted. And the other is a spring flowering Colchicum, which is quite unusual! I can't decide which is the most stunning. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). West Sussex, United Kingdom. Calico & Cream: July 2013

http://calicoandcream.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html

Wednesday, 31 July 2013. I've been playing with some ideas for applique flowers. The sample above uses some odd scraps from a piece of fabric that I dyed a long time ago. I found it again recently in a basket of abandoned patchwork bits. The colours have faded nicely over time and I like them a lot better now. Both samples were made using good old bondaweb, I'm afraid my patience no longer extends to doing it the traditional way. In other news, Open University Creative Writing results are now out. I'...

Beyond Patchwork: March 2014

http://beyondpatchworkcornwall.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html

Sunday, 16 March 2014. On Saturday Carolyn and I were invited to take our Manipulated Fabric Workshop to Carn Brea Quilters, we had a such a lovely day with a group of hospitable and talented ladies, who worked at full speed to create enough blocks to construct a small wall hanging. There's just a few pieces to add, then finishing touches with hand embellishments and beads, I think you'll agree they are going to look fabulous. Friday, 14 March 2014. Update and Recycled Experiments. Tomorrow we are off to...

Beyond Patchwork: A Dash of Paint...

http://beyondpatchworkcornwall.blogspot.com/2014/07/a-dash-of-paint.html

Tuesday, 29 July 2014. A Dash of Paint. As promised here are some photos from our recent Free Machine and Painting Workshop. It was a wonderful day with twelve students eager to learn and then thrilled at the results a layer of paint can add to a piece of work (may have some converts to painting). Thank you ladies for allowing us to share your work. We hope you all continue to enjoy your creative journey. Best wishes Sue and Carolyn x. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Beyond Patchwork: October 2013

http://beyondpatchworkcornwall.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html

Thursday, 24 October 2013. Today's Fabric Collage Workshop. We had eight lovely ladies join us today, some having been on workshops with us before and some that were new to us, but all had an amazing stash of gorgeous bits to add to their Fabric Collages, which as usual gave Carolyn and myself itchy fingers. Everyone was happy to experiment and try something new, colour was added with paints, printing and painted Bondaweb. Here's a selection of photos to share with you. Monday, 21 October 2013. Beyond Patchwork: June 2014

http://beyondpatchworkcornwall.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html

Friday, 27 June 2014. Just a quick mention that the Saints of Cornish Churches Exhibition at Truro Cathedral starts Monday 30th June until Monday 14th July. Please try and support this exhibition, there is never enough of these events in Cornwall and a lot of people have put so much hard work into it, from the organisers to the makers. Keep an eye out for our piece on St. Enoder and I'll be stewarding on Friday 4th July from 2.30 to 5pm if you would like to pop in and say hello. Hope to see you there.

Beyond Patchwork: Saints at the Cathedral...

http://beyondpatchworkcornwall.blogspot.com/2014/07/saints-at-cathedral.html

Friday, 4 July 2014. Saints at the Cathedral. This afternoon I was stewarding at Truro Cathedral for the Saints of Cornish Churches Exhibition and as promised I've taken a few snaps to share with you. Hopefully I've got most of the quilts, but I couldn't make a note of the makers, but you will see most have their Saints names on them. There was a section of the cathedral that was closed off, but how could I resist this floor, so I managed to poke my camera through the gates. View my complete profile.

Beyond Patchwork: Stitched Art Exhibition...

http://beyondpatchworkcornwall.blogspot.com/2014/07/stitched-art-exhibition.html

Monday, 28 July 2014. Carolyn and myself along with ten other textile artists are busy preparing ourselves for this. Sat 20th Sept - Fri 26th Sept. We have over a hundred pieces to show, so it should be a wonderful exhibition. Two members of the group will be there each day to chat with and answer any questions. I will be there on the Tuesday with Margaret from 10am - 4pm. Heartlands is a wonderful venue with free entry to the museum and exhibition, a very good cafe and childrens play area. Gosh, that so...

Beyond Patchwork: April 2014

http://beyondpatchworkcornwall.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html

Saturday, 26 April 2014. Feast for the Eyes. Carolyn and I had a very enjoyable day on Thursday, in a lovely spacious hall at St. Issey with Creative Textiles holding our Fabric Collage Workshop. Being embroiderers they had a wonderful stash and we spent the day in heaven (and stroking) with bag after bag being produced holding the most gorgeous fabrics, silks, organzas, nets, tulles, wool and threads etc. Here is a taster of the threads to feast your eyes on. Beyond Patchwork: August 2013

http://beyondpatchworkcornwall.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html

Saturday, 31 August 2013. I'll start with an apology, we had a lovely day with our Strip Cushion Workshop and as of yet we haven't shown you any snaps. The ladies did a sterling job and produced beautiful work and all went home happy with finished cushions, so we'll get some snaps up soon. With family visiting over the summer, we ventured to Fowey Regatta and the splendid Red Arrows display, here's a few photos. The Red Arrows doing their wonderful display. Here are our diary dates at Fraddon Village Hall.
